I made khichdi for my nephews before I left (they have the most bizarre requests sometimes — for me when I was a kid, it was sick food, for them it’s comfort in a bowl) which bizarrely made me crave it as well.
So I made some for myself tonight, using a mix of masoor dal and yellow moong dal and a special starchy rice my mom uses only for khichdi (same idea as arborio).
Started the meal with a snow pea and arugula salad (yay SOTD! feeling good each day I remember to make one).
Also roasted a piece of salmon with the mustard paste from the cookbook Gunpowder.
Rounded out with 2 kinds of crunchy papad (the pinkish one starts out bright purple because it’s made from ragi / finger millet).
