I was refurbishing a very old (1919) house at that time. Any extra money I had was pumped into that project.
I really can’t remember if we had an odd or even number of employees. It is possible someone also got their own name and kept their mouth shut.
I was truly disgusted by the whole “Secret Santa Gift Exchange” and hated that I was forced to participate. Otherwise it was a pretty good job that was close to home (short commute), so I just smiled, said “thank you” and donated the crap gift to Goodwill.
After a bunch of soupy, stewy, hearty meals lately I had a craving for Just Salad for dinner. Gem lettuce, cuke, radish, tomatoes, celery in a fresh herb sour cream dressing. Hit the spot.
Marinated kale salad with chickpeas and sumac onions. Amped up with a dollop of yuzu jalapeño dressing added to the recipe dressing of lemon juice/microplaned garlic/dijon. Topped with leftover coho salmon (a bit dried out) for B, plain for me (not pictured). Cheese ravioli with Carbone marinara for Spring Onion (also not pictured).
He’s home with Covid this week (which he contracted from his teacher). Good times, especially with my and B’s busy work weeks.
The reason why many of my food photos have a strange bordello-like cast (Hue bulb in our Nelson light, often set to some crazy color):

Turkey biscuit pot pie - surprisingly good and didn’t taste much like turkey (must have been the strong chicken stock in my turkey gravy?).
Italian sausage and cabbage stew, with cannellini beans, onions, white wine, parm and bay. Recipe from Simply Recipes. Toasted French bread to go with.
Dinner tonight was a slice of my take on ‘Detroit Pizza’ left over from our family pizza party on Saturday and I had that with some sugar snap pea pods with a bleu cheese dip. No picture. The l.o. pizza was great, so much like my elementary school ‘pizza bread’ .
Shrimp and udon noodle stir-fry with broccoli, onion, lots of scallions, and a heaping scoop of chili crisp. Side of Ling Ling Potstickers. More chili crisp. We got a jar of it yesterday and we’re halfway through. I’m glad the serving size is in Chinese.
Seared kingfish with a Michael Solomonov version of babaganoush that subs brussels sprouts for eggplant. And it was awesome! That’s my balcony parsley, still going strong in freakin’ December, go figure.
Pizza: Stonefire crust, crushed fire roasted tomatoes, oregano, mozz, Italian sausage, onion, garlic, mushrooms, black olives, dried basil because I forgot to buy fresh, parm and finely diced Fresno chile. Mixed greens salad with green onion, radishes, cuke, oo&v dressing. There was a Cuba Lebre (it’s been many, many years since I have had a coke and I’m not sure I ever had a Cuba Libre. 'Twas nice.) and wine
i had a few slices of leftover smoked salmon, and the BF found a recipe to use it up in a salad, with spinach, dill, cukes, and radishes, in a lemon vinaigrette. Very tasty, and surprisingly rich! couldn’t finish, saving the rest for tomorrow’s lunch. I had a taste of his bowl of pasta with goat cheese, parm, shiitake mushrooms and spinach - delish.
Udon noodles with sautéed mushrooms (button, shiitake, portobello, king oyster), leek, onion, great northern beans, parsley and sauce made from vegetable broth, white miso and cream. Topped with panko crumbs pan fried with smoked paprika
