I think it was Stella Parks that did a test using Persian Limes vs Key limes and the Persian limes were the favorite. Key limes are also a little harder to come by, so I guess Persian limes would be a very fine substitute.
Here’s her, ahem, screed about key limes.
I tried fresh key limes once. Never again…they’re too damn small! I think the bottled juice is fine.
And yes, definitely use lime zest if you have it. @Desert-Dan Just don’t use any green food coloring.
I made a key lime cheesecake a couple of times, recipe was in Gourmet or Bon Apetit. I made a crust from Nabisco chocolate wafers … why did they discontinue them?
I used the Nellie’s bottled juice, World Market and Amazon carry it.
BITD when TJ’s first came to town (Emeryville), their key lime pie was always purchased. That and the frozen langostinos they sold.

I did a little research and it appears I can get Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lime juice at my local Walmart…
Its going on the Walmart list.
Thanks, again!!
Good ekmek from the Greek place we went to last night. Not as good as the one we had in Berlin from that amazing Greek bakery, but pretty good. TBH I was just excited to see ekmek on the menu… even though loukoumades woulda… taken the cake
Recently l learned about teaberry being a regional PA flavor. I’d never heard of it. So I snagged some teaberry ice cream at a local chain grocery store.
Tastes like pepto-bismol.
I’d only ever heard of teaberry in the context of chewing gum, but it doesn’t sound as if the flavor’s the same.
Looks like it, too
It is the same! Everything says it’s supposed to taste “wintergreen.” I dunno, man.
Huh, well I definitely wouldn’t say I recall the gum tasting like Pepto Bismol (or like Wint-O-Green Life Savers), but that does sound like a much better flavor for gum than for ice cream.
Oh nol
Son loved Dandelion in San Francisco when we visited years ago , so I shared the following on a family chat
…lo and behold, next thing you know, husband orders these!
And these…not just eye candy!
They have fruit too, and tasting notes!
Two weeks ago I would have said I didn’t actually like chocolate… Sort of boring, but I will eat it if it has nuts and caramel for texture, and fruit for tart and acid…but oh, man, those fruit bon bons; pear and raspberry so far, have shut my mouth…with chocolate stuffed in it!
And then these! From “Stick With Me” in New York.
No fruit but pralines…
With my digestive problems I’m a regular consumer of Pepto-Bismol. Maybe I should try this ice cream instead! Kidding aside, I used to eat yogurt when I had acid reflux; one of my sisters suggested ice cream instead. I tried it; definitely worked better than yogurt.
Beautiful chocolates!
