I made myself a dessert for tonight: Peach Galette using late season peaches (and a Pillsbury crust). Unfortunately, not the best peaches, but still a decent dessert with Tillamook Caramel Toffee Crunch ice cream alongside.

Great combo with the peaches!

I cannot have my favorite Tillamook (Chocolate & Hazelnut) in the house. Too tempting.

OMG. I WISH.

A “kid-sized” sundae from the vegan frozen banana dessert place on what may be the last hot day here. Homemade toffee sauce, homemade chocolate sauce, raw walnuts, toasted coconut chips, whipped coconut milk.

The pic doesn’t do it justice at all.

I know many families that were ruined by the KK fundraisers. The fundraising moms would drive 126 miles way before zero dark thirty am to meet the KK delivery truck that came from 200 miles away. There, they loaded all of their Suburbans and Expansions with boxes of just the glazed donuts. They’d drive the 126 miles back to meet the parents dropping off the kids at school for distribution in the parking lot. Seems like a lotta work. This only lasted for a few months until the winter driving conditions became treacherous.

People used to show up with day -old KKs from 60 miles away, for sweet tables at Greek and Italian baby showers, bridal showers and wedding receptions in Toronto around 2004. Give me the homemade kourabiedes, baklava, Galaktoboureko, and tiramisu, I’ll pass on the day- old KKs. :joy:

I did walk from east 44th between 2nd and 3rd Ave to 23rd St between maybe 8th and 9th to try my very first KK in 1997 or 1998.

The dark side of KK fundraising . I do it for the kids, and I think the KK “ factory” is really close.

These were super fresh, and luckily they freeze really well :sunglasses:

I’ll still eat them if they’re there, fresh or stale.

I just won’t choose them over good home-made stuff!

Met up with my recluse friend for a walk in the park, and she sent me home with a big jar of her hives’ honey. My PIC is thrilled to have some again for his morning yogurt.

Hyper-local honey is where it’s at

The final (?!) “small” frozen banana sundae from the place that’s shutting down its brick & mortar biz.

They were out of pecans and coconut whipped cream, so I got an extra free topping and did not regret my choice: pistachios :yum:

I don’t have anything sweet in the house ATM but really needed some stress-relieving sugar this evening. Badly enough that I put pants on and drove to the grocery store at 9 PM.

I shocked myself by bypassing the ice cream aisle as well as many other “decadent” but middling-quality options and trying an “extra creamy” Icelandic Provisions Skyr yogurt, strawberry flavor, which I convinced myself might scratch my creamy fruity dessert itch.

Friends, that stuff is delicious. Truly, considering my sweet tooth, the fact that I just satisfied myself (albeit temporarily) with a mere 9 grams of sugar is kind of outrageous.

I picked up a Skyr boysenberry yogurt when I went back home recently for a visit, and there was nothing in the fridge for breakfast. I usually have Fage with fruit, but this was a decent alternative.

Pistachio ricotta cake from the Italian BYOB meal Saturday. Dunno why it took us this long to figure out that — while we may not have room for dessert right after dinner — we probably will a couple hours (or even a day) later. So why not take dessert to go?

ZACKLY!
