What's cooking for Valentine's / Galentine's / Palentine's Day, fellow HOs?

here’s the little chocolate mug cakes my partner has made into an annual V-day request:

1 lg egg
1/4 c white sugar
1 pinch salt
2 Tblsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Tblsp melted butter
1 Tblsp veg. oil
1/8 tsp vanilla extract
1/4-1/3 cup mini choc chips
3 Tblsp whole milk
1/4 c AP flour
1/4 tsp baking powder

in bowl (or large measuring cup) whisk egg, sugar, salt, cocoa powder, butter, oil, and vanilla 'til smooth.

stir in choc chips

combine flour and baking powder and whisk into choc. mixture until no flour streaks remain.

divide batter evenly between two coffee mugs. Tap on counter to remove bubbles

nuke each mug seperately for about 45 sec. Nothing will happen for 30 sec, then the cake will rise up and collapse down once the microwave shuts off. This is normal. Allow cakes to cool 2 min or so.

Dust w/ powdered sugar and/or cocoa powder, or whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.

Serve while warm.

Our 2/14/2025 menu will be low carb and apparently sugar free, according to the dotter who is executing the dessert…chocolate chia pudding. I will add a raspberry or two to my serving. Sous vide strip steaks, sautèed crimini 'rooms, ‘spinach souffle’, a simple wedge salad, and possibly a miniscule portion of some kind of potato for those who need a little carb. We’ll see. Dotter is full on the ‘Glucose Revolution’ regimen; if it works for her, more power to her.

We went to Brooklyn Crab in Red Hook and had an excellent time. Dungeness crab pot:

And I was very disappointed that I couldn’t also get this, because bacon (in the chowder as well as on top).
