What Wine Did You Drink Today #1? 2015-2020

I’ve just tried some quite inexpensive South African wine, that I admittedly bought exactly because it was low-priced and on prominent display. It isn’t sublime or highly interesting, but at the same time, it is more than good enough for me. Ignorance is bliss?

I’ve heard it said that life’s too short to drink bad wine, but I sincerely wonder whether it might be closer to the truth to say that life’s too short to spend your time worrying about the wine - assuming you have any wine at all.

It’s branded “The Whale Caller” Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon, but I’m sure it originated in a number of disparate vats from whichever producers contributed. It’s a bit tannic, a bit low on charm, but it’s clearly good enough to fool me into thinking I’ve got a bottle of red wine; and sometimes “Drink it, you fool! It’s wine, and it hasn’t gone off yet” is enough. :slightly_smiling_face:

Last night we enjoyed a Kosta Browne 2016 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Lovely wine.

Kosta Browne is good stuff!

Yup. It’s real good

We had an excellent 2011 Charbonniere Chateauneuf Du Pape tonight. This could easily be cellared for another 10 years or more.

Cool! I have a couple of bottles of the 1999 or 1998. Maybe it’s time to open them.

Let me know if you need any help drinking them :slightly_smiling_face:

Wife finished the rest of the Kosta. I had a little bit was mostly drinking single barrel ryes that taste like liquid candy (to me) before and after dinner

My sister went on vacation trip to Croatia and brought me a few (many) bottles of regional white wine. Because wine is very cheap there, she had millions of bottles of wine in the car, and I’m sure there is still one lying somewhere

2 cases of Rochiolli Pinot are sitting in the laundry room at the moment

I suspect one bottle may be opened tonight. Entertaining friends from out of state tonight

We had an outstanding single vineyard, 2013 R&B Malbec made from 100 year old vines. The wine supposedly retails for $90 and Bottle King has it on sale for $25. It got 92 points from Wine Enthusiast.

One of my favorite Pinot Noirs. Nice and bright with a veggie risotto.

I had this great inexpensive red blend aged in rum barrels called Sailor’s Superstition.

I had an excellent 2018 Tensley Syrah that could use a few years worth of cellaring.

From the Critics:

  • “The deepest colored Syrah in the lineup, the 2018 Syrah Colson Canyon comes from a great vineyard located in the hills above the town of Los Olivos. Awesome notes of blackberries, toasted spice (there’s some new oak in this wine), ground herbs, peppered meat, and earth all flow to a full-bodied, concentrated, deep, layered wine that has plenty of tannins, good acidity, and a huge finish. It’s a magical Syrah from Tensely, and my money is on it being the finest to date.” - 96-98 Points Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
  • “The 2018 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is a flat-out gorgeous beauty. Vibrant, nuanced and beautifully delineated, the 2018 is an absolute stunner. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and menthol are all beautifully delineated. Brisk, nuanced and full of class, the 2018 is positively stellar, not to mention incredibly promising.” - 94-96 Points Antonio Galloni - Vinous
