I realized that when I was chewing on the sugar cane. It tasted like sugar, only a lot purer, somehow. Maybe because it was nature’s perfect dilution in the cane juice as opposed to the processing of it.

Used to suck out the juice as a kid, but as an adult I find it too sweet, so using it as you did in a drink sounds like the best thing to me apart from using as a skewer for grilled shrimp or chicken.
