Obviously I am not in the boil it down camp. I remember when they redid chowhound for smart phones and members were bitching out other members for not simply posing a yay or nay on the tjs forum. People had the nerve to comment on why they disliked or liked something. Not sure smart phones make people smarter but I am going to be assimilated soon. Resistance is futile.

TBH I have not finished reading this but I consider it a wonderful gift. Thank you. I am burning daylight here walkdogweedgardencheckmailplandinner. I will wait til the fireflies are calling it a night and then give it the attention it deserves. Unless there is a power outage it is comforting to have something to read.
Do not go to food memories I tell you. At least Librarian and Badger find my long winded posts umm interesting. I should probably decamp to there. They are talking about Drive Ins! Must resist til night falls. Fireflies peak at dusk now and I have tickets for their show tonight.

So, while running an errand I was leaving a parking lot and saw a man at the exit holding a sign (with lots of writing) surrounded by several kids and maybe his wife. I didn’t have time to see it all). Anyway the only words I saw on his sign was “We are struggling hard….” I couldn’t read the rest.
As I scanned around for car and foot traffic I looked back at the man and he was looking directly at me (I was wearing sunglasses too). I swear I saw genuine desperation in his face.
(Sure he could be scamming, but even if he and his family were scamming they were standing out in the hot sun scamming. That ought to be worth something, right?)
I don’t carry cash and knew there was only a few dollars in the glovebox so I drove home, grabbed some cash and returned, but they were gone. After checking a few parking lots I drove home and put the money back. FML

I have been tossing around the word spec a lot. It is a gamer term to me. As in don’t expect your mage to be able to take a lot of damage. Mages are glass cannons. There are other specs. I had long online relationship with some dude I met through mtg even though he was from Alaska. It did not end well but we chatted a lot. What he really wanted was a super model gourmet chef. I never wanted to crush his unrealistic dream but I thought to myself that spec does not exist. I also wanted to tell him that people aren’t buffets. You might have to take some lime jello with the crab legs. Mmm crab legs. I could do the finely polished gems. Of course I can. I cleverly chose a B.A. in English for my undergrad degree and you can imagine how well that paid off. I enjoy reactive spontaneous connecting to other people in an of the moment writing style. Often the same conversation cannot be had the next day. A kind of by the seat of your pants moment or moments. This is who I am and my spec right now. Love it. When I form a connection it feels like catching lightning in a bottle. Much like actual human conversation. Sorry dogs I did not mean to be species centric there. Very non inclusive of me. I am on fire in July and my mind is like fireworks. I cannot be tamed. Hate to use the phrase it is what it is. People are not buffets. This is my spec and I am very happy with it. July is dressed up and playing her tune. Now fireflies

I might get broiled alive here but they usually don’t involve the man. Usually it’s a woman and children. And by 4 o’clock they’re gone Only to show up the next day. With the same sign. They’ll be there tomorrow I guarantee you.

In my area it was a man and his kids playing instruments by a strip mall. No signs, but they generated some chatter on the local neighborhood site. One day they were seen (and photographed) leaving in a car nicer than most of those neighbors owned. To this day I suspect he subscribed to that local site as it was the last I saw\heard of them.

Yeah, it’s a shame. My first instinct is always to help. But I am now wise enough to direct that help to charities that I know will do the right thing with the money.
