What have you been watching lately? 2024 Edition

We finally started in on Sugar & “managed to” watch 5 epis last night… I guess that says it all

Really engaging, and — now that I reread your post about it I am curious about the twist. It’s obvious something’s going on with him, but I agree with you — hopefully nothing too outlandish.

We’re bound to finish the show tonight! Have you?

Yes, we finished last week. Loved Colin Farrell and the noir of it all. Since you’re not finished I’ll end my critique there.

I took notes.

Sugar was also unexpected. I prolonged the finale as long as I could. Season 2 is confirmed.

I saw Hit Man over the weekend. It made me uncomfortable, but the acting was mesmerizing.

I’ve had this on my list of shows to watch for so long…sounds really interesting.

Hmmm, interesting. I’m a real wimp these days and it got a little violent at the end but probably up for another season.

Curious what made you uncomfortable. :grinning:

I like Colin Farrell but not enough to continue with season 2. The twist put it into a genre I do not watch.
I’m watching Eric, The Gentlemen, Ripley, Season 7 of Somebody Feed Phil and Dinner Time Live. Starting over with Dinner Time because I think I only watched two episodes last time I had Netflix. I really enjoy them but I wish some of the guests would shut the fuck up so David could explain what he is making.

I enjoyed the ones with Nick Kroll and Sarah Silverman (respectively) the most.

I completely agree. Probably being overly optimistic about my chances of watching it again.

I ended up liking that other show with David Chang and Chrissy Teigen. The first one was annoying but soldiered on and they ended up eating at some interesting restaurants in LA with some interesting people. I’ll have to watch the dinner with David series. I’m presently watching on the food front-Caio House and working our way through Welcome to Wrexham, Elspeth, Loot, Acapulco, Seaside Hotel and just finished up Gentleman in Moscow and Hacks-both excellent.

My husband doesn’t know it yet but we’re about to watch and catch up with this season of Bridgerton. He records the NBA stuff and then I let him watch that and I wander off to watch cooking stuff…

I really enjoyed Gentleman in Moscow. Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are married in real life. They met while doing Fargo.

Hacks is also fantastic.

How did you think it did vs the book?

Kinda love these kinds of stories

I only recently learned that Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons were married. I’m guessing they met on the set of Fargo as well?

Are the Cohens the biggest matchmakers in film history or what?:smiley:

I’ll chime in and think it was pretty close to book except the ending seemed a bit different. They did color blind casting and I’m a big fan of that on shows like Bridgerton but in this production it took you out of the story a few times.

We watched an amazing show called Long Way Round where Ewan and a friend motorcycle around the world (it’s excellent and there are two other shows) and his wife and kids pop in and out, so sadly I know that he left that long-standing marriage with 4 kids for the actress in Gentleman in Moscow but hey none of my business…

What made me uncomfortable with Hit Man, hidden for spoilers: I was uncomfortable that the male protagonist would stay with the woman after she tried to have her husband killed, and might or might not have actually killed him. She is dangerous.

I felt the last two episodes were kinda light on some characters so hopefully S2 goes deeper.

Sorry, I never read the book, but I really enjoyed the series. Ewan McGregor was excellent.

Yes, they both met on the set of Fargo as well :slightly_smiling_face:
The Cohens are better matchmakers than Patti Stanger :grinning:

Whoops, I did not know that when I made my sappy comment
