What food is your go-to after a bad day, a disappointment, or an argument?

Indian stores carry the Indian version, also made with cane sugar, of both Thums Up and Coke (in cans and in bottles).

Chef Store sells Mexi Coke for about $1.50 or less…but have to buy a flat of 24. I bought a bunch for Cuba Libres.

I will have to look for Thums Up next time I’m in Little India. I have never tried it.

I used to prefer it for a long time. It has what seems like a slight saltiness compared to Coke… or dare I say “umami” lol. So Coke seems a tad too sweet by comparison.

I pay around $10 -$12 CAD for a 4 pack of Mexican Coke in glass bottles in Toronto.

There’s also a Maple Syrup / Cane Syrup glass bottle Coke sold in Canada, which I’ve bought a few times. I don’t love it but I think I like it more than plastic bottle Coke Classic.

I somehow became accustomed to regular Coke Classic in a glass bottle, with Corn Syrup, and that’s the one I still like the best. The Mexican Coke tastes a wee bit sweeter to me. It’s still good, but comes in as my second favourite Glass Bottle Coke.

I also like the smaller size of the glass bottled Coke Classic.

My kids are crazy for them. As I don’t care for the white cheddar ones, those,are the ones I buy

Science, honestly. McDonald’s (and mostly EVERY fast/processed/packaged food) goes through extensive testing and refinement. They are literally ENGINEERED to hit all your major"good" taste sensors (salt, umami, sweet), and things like texture and mouthfeel are controlled for to a surprisingly exact degree.

Take a good look at McNuggets some time. Note that they’re consistent in shape. There are four, the ‘bone’, the ‘bell’, the ‘ball’ and the ‘boot’. Look at the fried coating, and note how ‘perfectly irregular’ the surface is, to maximize crunch and sauce retention. Every single aspect of it has been chosen to maximize both its appeal to the widest possible audience and to stimulate all the right reward centers to make us crave MORE.

On the one hand, it’s kind of remarkable, and even impressive, that they can so exactly pinpoint the factors that light up our endorphin pathways so reliably AND find ways to activate them more or less on command.

We can land a man on the moon, send a satelite to a comet, reattach lost limbs… And yet the best we can seem to do with it all with any consistency is sell each other crap that’s killing everything.

And I say all this as someone that will probably grab a Filet o Fish on the way to a film tonight.

When I was in India the first time I was sick constantly. I even bought a case of sealed water and got sick. I was told even that can’t be trusted. I started drinking cokes, no water, eating potato chips, didn’t get sick.

On another visit I was told to only buy Bisleri, then I was fine.

A friend who grew up in Lahore said his mother, a doctor, forbade all street food. They (3 kids) loved the one housekeeper. When they were out they’d beg her for street food, she’d give in, making them promise not to tell their parents. They never snitched. She might have gotten fired for that.

Polish and Spanish Haribo are better, too.

I suspect it’s mostly Canadian and US Haribo that aren’t very good.

If today is any indication, it’s a latte and a slice of blueberry Bundt cake. :upside_down_face:

I keep a stash for when I’m sick. Hope they don’t expire. The best coke was a fountain coke - back when your fountain drink was mixed for you - ice, squirt of coke syrup (my Mom and I would always ask for an extra squirt) and carbonated water. That was a LONG time ago.
