My parents live in India now, where McDonald’s doesn’t serve any beef. So when they visit me in the UK, one of the things they want to do just once on the trip is go to a McDonald’s. They will have just one hamburger and small fries each and that will be them satisfied until their next trip!
I also love the tiny soft serve cones and the hot apple pies at McDonald’s but rarely indulge as I’m in prime Type 2 diabetes development zone now.
Thanks for the link. I’ve bought the Aldi version of the sausage, which probably is made in the US; liked 'em but didn’t really know how to serve them.
Love her description of the NY dirty water dog. I just gave up completely on sauerkraut on dogs several years ago.
Oreos - never had one till in my 40s - Mom loved to bake, especially sweets. We always had home-made cookies, candy, cakes and pies. I have had a problem with the Os in the past and don’t keep them on hand (not my favorite store-bought cookie, anyway). I have found the generic versions are not nearly as addictive (HEB Twisters, WM Twist & Shout) so I buy them from time to time. Also the name brand product with the mint filling - I can eat just one of those and walk away.
My friend’s mom baked home-made Oreos. She baked them, and brought them to Calgary for my friend’s law school graduation. They weren’t quite the same. They were much bigger with a softer cookie, and one cookie was satisfying. I wondered if my friend grew up only eating her mom’s home-made version of Oreos.
I share your affinity for the sausage McMuffin meal. The tear-y, crunchy textures of the muffin… the salty greasy, sage flavor of the sausage, creamy mouth feel of the egg, even the unctuous “cheese”…–all very addictive. The browns and coffee are pretty good, too.
I will say, though, that McD’s burgers are near the bottom of my list for chain burgage. But others love them–there’s one famous guy who’s eaten a Big Mac every day for decades.
I only offer sandwiches at McDonald’s. I’ve been watching my sugar intake for 10 years now, and one of the first switches I made, was not ordering fries with my burgers. I used to get the hot apple pies at McDonald’s when I was younger, but I don’t think I’ve ordered one in 12 years. I’ve never really liked vanilla ice cream too much, or vanilla soft serve, so the cones and sundaes weren’t a big temptation for me. I know most people love them.
I like other chain burgers more when I want a good burger and I’m not having a bad day. 5 Guys, or a junior cheeseburger at Wendy’s, Harvey’s cheeseburger here in Canada, the A & W Teenburger.
That Quarter Pounder with cheese hits a different spot. I have stopped ordering the regular hamburger or cheeseburger, and I never was a Big Mac person. I’ve usually been disappointed by their limited time only special burgers.
I used to like Junior Whoppers. Burger King has been expanding lately in Canada. We have a new location a mile from my place. The 2 times I’ve visited in the past 3 years since it opened, I have been pretty bad experiences. I think it’s probably a local management issue, with under trained or under supervised staff relative to other chains.
I do like a bacon Egg McMuffin, and Sausage McMuffin. I usually order the bacon. I haven’t had a regular Egg McMuffin with ham in decades.
Yes… I remember last Spring working for an acquaintance and the situation became quite difficult. It was hard to complete the job, but I kept my word and did.
I do remember coming home and having cheap vodka for dinner which was required during that time.
McDonald’s in Ontario is pushing chicken for breakfast, maybe to increase the growing client base in Ontario that does not eat bacon, ham, sausage or beef.
I don’t like the idea of eating chicken and egg together in a sandwich.
Chicken and egg being together in a Cobb salad doesn’t bother me. I’m complicated.
Chicken McGriddles. I guess they’re a distant relative to chicken and waffles.
Intense chocolatey stuff — homemade brownies, dark chocolate fudge, dark chocolate based ice cream (most of which are never in stock, so rare, but still)
