Sometimes as long as the thread doesn’t drift into divisive issues (religion, politics, etc) it’s a “no harm, no foul” situation. And usually it drifts back (and forth).
About 45 years I applied for a Visa credit card. Turned down. Tried again. Same. My boss overheard me telling a coworker about it and called me into his office. He told me to go his bank and gave me her name. She didn’t ask any Q’s and stamped her approval for a $500 Visa credit card limit. Might not sound like much now but it was a start. Unlike nowadays, credit wasn’t so easy to come by back then.
Nope.
But back to Raising Cane’s. Our grandkids love the place. Last time we were there my husband and I split a 4? “finger” plate. Yep, there’s a reason why they’re called fingers. Plenty of crinkle fries, ok cole slaw and toast. I don’t know this for a fact, but they must brine the chicken fingers. The chicken is so moist I wondered if it was undercooked. Just my personal opinion. Friendly service.
Like home ec, shop, civics . Life skills and citizenship skills ? All point out the fact that it’s better to teach skills early than to clean up the mess that ignorance leaves later.
That’s a very insightful point!! I wonder if they do brine the chicken, as the fingers are decidedly more moist than most others…
Ahahaha, you two are killing me!
(Habitual innocent splashee here.)

I was an authorized user on one of my dad’s cards. I’m sure that helped me build a credit score …
We’ve done that with each of the 4 kids as they reached driving age. It’s amazing - they all (ages 18-23) have credit scores over 800. The older two have their own cards now instead of ours. This was a huge leg up.
Like @Sasha said, though, these kind of things don’t occur to most people, especially if they don’t have any background in the systems in use. I spent a lot of time on financial websites when my kids were younger and if I hadn’t, it certainly would never have occurred to me, on my own, to give my kids this kind of head start into the credit score system. I didn’t have the background myself.
I also got them all Roth IRAs funded with any W2 wages (that is, matched by me) earned in HS and from work during college. The promise (not really enforceable…) is that I gift the matching funds if they promise not to withdraw anything from the Roth until 59.5 years. I showed them how that money could balloon over time.
My dad ran his own business since he was a teenager; my mom was a business major. I was lucky to learn from example. My dad also co-signed on my first mortgage, though I in fact made all the payments. My credit score has been at the top of the ladder forever. I also don’t carry credit card debt. Paying it off in full is like putting money in a savings account. Those credit limits are for emergency deployment only. All these lessons ewes learned.
I didn’t realize some people were only here for the food. If you want a recipe, google it. If you want a restaurant review, go to yelp. If you want to actually get to know some people - their lives, their families, their joys and their trials, hang out here. This forum is about a lot more than food.
Well, IMHO that’s definitely a “Yes, but” proposition.
I am primarily here for food-related stuff, with the understanding that there will be tangential conversations as well. I hope it doesn’t turn into Facebook 2.
Me too. And with the understanding that threads on topics like a specific restaurant or recipe will be far more linear than any topics on the General boards.
As I said earlier. as long as the conversation doesn’t drift into religion, politics, personal attacks, etc . . .
For those of you who haven’t seen an outside DQ menu board in years.

So it looks like Dairy Queen has a completely different menu in Texas
Yes, the franchisee there operates on a totally different platform.
That is good research! I can’t seem to find the connection to Foster’s Freeze in California. Where should I look?
NVM. Found it!
I have one of those nearby!
