A delectable martinez with Bluecoat gin, sweet & dry vermouth, a few drops of orange bitters.
I hope you ate one before the photo. Olives need to be in odd numbers!
A fabulous martinez with the untraditional addition of Aldi’s Amarena cherries.
Tradition, shmadition.
Ahem. I’ve been informed that this was, in fact, a Manhattan. So, the cherries were absolutely in line with the drink ![]()
Long week - let’s just call this a double margarita. Plus I just bought a new triple sec I wanted to try out, Blended family, less sweet than Cointreau and much brighter than a dry Curacao - I like it.
What brand of triple sec?
I should have taken a photo last night, but was too busy drinking
… I broke out my bottle of alchermes, a bright red spice liqueur I learned about in Italy (most commonly used as a dessert ingredient), to put together a festive drink that came out really nicely. Deep orange color, nice spice notes. Alchermes is a total sleeper ingredient; you should grab some if you see it!
2 oz bourbon (Jefferson’s … was on sale)
1 oz orange curacao (Ferrand)
3/4 oz alchermes (Heirloom)
1/4 oz maraschino (Luxardo)
1 oz lemon juice
2 d allspice bitters (Dale DeGroff)
1 d Angostura
Shake, strain, rocks. Garnish, if you want…I didn’t. But a Luxardo cherry would be nice.
Egg nog from a local dairy with white rum. Don’t care for bourbon. 'twas delish.
A cold Heineken 0.0, not bad for not beer.
I splurged the last of my 2022 Covid refund money on a bottle of Lagavulin.
I’d forgotten how nuanced and complex it is, even in comparison with the Laphroig I already had.
Good choice! My favorite scotch distiller for sure. (Bowmore, close second.)
Yesterday evening I celebrated my last working day of the year with a small glass of this, which I received as a Christmas gift. One of the best rums I’ve tried in a while. Massive esters with mango, pineapple and banana hiding just behind some unidentifiable [to me] funk. Bit of nuttiness and acidity contributed by the sherry cask. I’ve long been a Hampden fan and this bottling is one of the better ones I’ve tried. If you’re into rum, definitely work seeking out.
Farewell to the year. Cheers with a Milam & Greene old fashioned.
I just tried Knudsen Just Cranberry Juice, which has no sweeteners, real or artificial, and I have to ask: does anyone drink this straight? Or it intended only for mixing with something with some sweetener in it? It reminds me of the raw rhubarb I used to eat as a child.
Crux Cocktail: equal parts brandy, Dubonnet Rouge (I used Cinzano Rouge), triple sec, and lemon juice. Shake with ice & strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
