What Did You Drink Today (non-wine) #2?

Kir Royale - sparkling wine and crème de framboise instead of crème de cassis. Very dry.

Greenie cat treats - not for me!

Not sure why we’ve been saving this Hendricks special edition for several years now — other than the fact that it no longer seems to be available, but we unearthed it for our digestif hour.

Probably the last of their special editions we didn’t despise.

The Chauncey: add equal parts gin, rye, Cognac, and sweet vermouth, along with 1-2 dashes of orange bitters, to an ice-filled mixing glass, stir, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of orange or lemon.

I had a very large dog who freaked out during thunderstorms, a frequent occurrence in Houston. Working in a bank, I had a friend who regularly went to our Mexico City office, and he would usually get a large (and cheap) bottle of Kahlua for me. I would pour Judas a bowl of Kahlua and milk. Once “relaxed” he would stand inches from the curtains, staring at them, drooling contentedly. He also loved piña coladas. A hundred pound dog who loves sugary drinks can be entertaining in a weird way. He left my drinks alone.

Interesting … long ago I had a neighbor with a basset hound who loved People Drinks - anything in a cup was fair game for him, alcohol or not. But he didn’t leave our drinks alone ….

We learned of his predilection when he wandered over to a guest and drained their piña colada. He also loved chocolate, a no no for dogs. On his birthday he ate half a Sara Lee all butter chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream from a plate on the sidewalk outside Baskin-Robbins faster than you could sing Happy Birthday.

OMG. Chocolate is a no-no for cats, too. My new cat eats, as they say, like a horse, and that includes any of my food he can get is little snout into, but nothing fatal yet. I have to be careful about onions. He is very interested in them.

He can just forget about getting near my ice cream.

Parker fortunately avoids people drinks (thinks coffee, beer, and wine are all horrible). However, he loves cake donuts with butternut or coconut coatings!

My first cat, and another one after that, loved carrot cake. And I mean loved.

A neighbor of ours, a long time ago, had a wrapped, 2# box of See’s candies under the Christmas tree. Their Bassett (remember, they eat everything) spent the last hours of his long life enjoying the assortment.
It was sooooo sad. :persevere:

Sometimes, you just need an Old Pal.

  • 2 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1 oz. Campari
  • 1 oz. dry vermouth

Stir all ingredients with ice in a mixing glass, strain into a chilled coupe glass, and garnish with an orange twist.

Don’t drink as much as I use to. Although I own more bourbon, rum and armagnac than any one should.

As a side note I have found an auction company called Unicorn that I will use to channel the vast majority of my collection fairly soon.

These days a dark beer is what I gravitate to.

A White Russian. My first.

I used to love White Russians. They always remind me of The Big Lebowski.

It’s been at least 7 years since I had one.

I couldn’t have gone through life without at least sampling one. I doubt if it will appear in my kitchen any time soon, unless I think about it.

Bourbon sour. It was delightful, despite my dislike for bourbon.

Have you had a Brown Cow or a Paralyzer? Or a China White (an alcoholic shooter, not heroin) They’re all in the same family as the White Russian for me.

Nope. None. But I lead a sheltered life …

Me, too. Or, at least the last 22 years.:joy:

Bitd we used to call them Sputniks. I bought a bottle of Kahlúa last month so I had a few, both black & white.
