Couldn’t have said it better ![]()
There’s something about it that reminds me of The West Wing, a show I remember fondly. I also remember I did watch a couple episodes of The Americans, and enjoyed them, before losing interest.
I had a couple days where I couldn’t work out because I had a minor surgery a week ago (my first, a dubious landmark of middle age) so I was desperate to fill the evenings somehow. Now that I am back in the gym, we’ll see if I can maintain my newfound TV habit.
The Americans is a bit uneven, but Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys are both fantastic. (It’s also got one of the best series finales I’ve seen, just note-perfect start to finish.)
Margo Martindale was great in this, too.
What is she not great in?
We are halfway through the third season of Peaky Blinders, and will probably finish it tonight. Whether we will continue, I don’t know. Frankly, I’m getting really annoyed with the over-the-top emotionality of the Shelby boys, the endless fights, fucking, and coke snorting ![]()
At this point, the only saving grace is the soundtrack, which is pretty excellent.
Dood, I can barley watch the 3rd season for the exact same reason!
especially the older brother Arthur "Peaky Fookin Blinders! " Too over the top for me.
So testerical ![]()
Not a single likable person among them.
And the slow-mo walking with the steam in the factory, they look like Orangutangs with ill fitting suits.
The Americans is the best! I was just saying that they REALLY landed the ending of that series.
I love The Diplomat now but it was a slow burn - the first few episodes weren’t great.
Agree! It’s one of my favourite series ever.
We started the Mark Gatiss series Bookish on PBS last night. The quirky cast of characters seems promising. One episode in, so not sure what I think yet.
We watched 2 episodes and enjoyed. Full of actors that we say “where do we know that guy/gal from”? Mrs. Book is annoying mom from Bridgerton and Mr. Book has been everywhere. I like it. Starting new season of Night Manager tonight.
The Americans is one of my favorite series of all times. So well done and such a unique premise. When it got too violent for me I would pace in the kitchen and yell to my husband “is it over yet?” The daughter kind of took over a bit too much in the last few seasons but everyone was great and Margo Martindale was fantastic. I like the Diplomat although it’s pretty soapy. I love Matthew Rhys and really enjoyed the Wine Show with him and some other great British actors.
We still think that you’ve got to have been on Midsomer Murders to be “someone”.
I just finished watching the full season of This is Going to Hurt. I was fortunate to find it streaming for free on Roku. It was very good. The main Dr. was a bit of a prick, but I guess you can’t blame him if you had to work under those horrific conditions.
Thanks for the recommendation @medgirl !
I watched the first episode of Ponies on Peacock. It’s very entertaining.
Third night in a row binging The Diplomat til 2 or 3 AM. I am so unused to this level of drama, I can’t stop.
Have you seen Transplant, the Canadian made medical drama? We really liked it.
