If I recall, it’s properly pronounced more like “HOO-leh”
But it’s still hilarious.
Apparently the series is a much much better adaptation of the books than the recent film The Snowman starring Michael Fassbender. Apparently, the whole shoot was a disaster, they didn’t actually complete filming the script as intended, and the resulting film is reportedly an incomprehensible disaster.
Call the Midwife. I have PBS Passport on account of throwing PBS a few bucks a month, and so have access ahead of when they air, which makes me realize that the season is speeding toward its close.
Is This Thing On with Laura Dern & Will Arnett, (surprisingly well) directed by Bradley Cooper, who also makes an appearance in the movie. I don’t care much for his acting, so maybe he should stick to directing. Several cameos of comedians, such as the fabulous Amy Sedaris.
We finished S1 of The Comeback. Love Lisa Kudrow, but this was pretty much a one-note / one joke show. Hopefully, S2 and S3 are better.
Finished Detective Hole(Holeh) last night. Wow, that was something! I really enjoyed it, great acting and a fantastic cast of characters, lots of twists and turns, typical Scandi bizarreness, gruesome and violent so not to everyone’s taste. The ending was something else to be sure 8/10
I’ll be watching the finale soon, so no spoilers, but I wanted to say I’m happy to find someone else watching this. I really enjoy it although I find it a funny collision of apocalypse and melodrama. The capacity of Dan Fogelman characters to give lengthy speeches about a thing from their past (event, song, observation) and then make it have meaning for whatever condition they are currently observing is kind of funny. I also find the cultural touchstones as shibboleth entertaining but annoying (especially when it’s about men waxing eloquent about things they love as mating calls to the women they’re into-- there’s too much “wearing her down” as an implicit romantic tactic, even if gentle, potentially delivered with charm, and, within the narrative, satisfying.
And yes, I say all this whilst still enjoying it but how could I not? Sterling K Brown and Julianne Nicholson are brilliant actors always and it was lovely to see Shailene Woodley.
Ima subtitle convert, having grown up with very well done dubbing. I still prefer to watch a movie over reading it, but I’ve gotten used to hearing the OG voices in their native language.
I just find most subtitles often fail to catch nuances / all that is being said, lest they cover the entire screen.
Love the Comeback and so happy it has returned. The most recent episode was the best yet (imho) of the new ones. I can’t believe I never knew that the actress that plays Jane is Sarah Silverman’s sister.
