I agree with all of that. I’m a bit mystified by the critics reviews I’ve read, but social media is full of viewers who love it.
We watched a few episodes of season 5 of Hope St last night.
We also binged on Scarpetta this week.
The Guardian review was brutal LOL.
I’m just amazed by Nicole Kidman’s energy, in terms of how many shows she makes each year.
I started watching Imperfect Women, too.
More good writing and performers we know:
I was considering watching Scarpetta because I had read a bunch of the books-- back in the day (90s early 00s) and found them annoying but fun. However, starting an episode of a crime drama with yet another naked dead woman means I’ll be giving this a pass, even if we have women at the centre of detection. (Take a lesson from Deadloch– whose S2 just dropped.)
There’s too much other stuff to watch. For my trash it’s Bienvenidos a Eden on Netflix. Murders, cults, and vapid young people: what more could I ask for? (I also loved Billionaires’ Bunker/El refugio atómico which was hilarious as end of the world for bunker inhabitants took a back seat to romantic drama. I’m gutted it was cancelled because it’s the kind of stupid television I love.)
Thanks for alerting me to S2 of LOL! I’d caught a brief clip of Diane Morgan’s joker on Fb & knew I had to see it.
We watched the first 3 episodes last night, and I’m already pre-sad for it being over so soon.
We just started American Gods, the Starz series based on the Neil Gaiman book. Its 3 seasons are currently available on Tubi for free (with ads).
Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday is, as always, incredibly magnetic and wonderful to watch. He can make awkward, florid dialogue beautiful and natural. Of the two episodes we’ve seen, he’s most certainly the best thing about the show.
It varies pretty significantly from the book, and thus far, the show feels way more exaggerated and over the top. The episodes thus far feature ridiculous, cartoonish levels of violence, gore, and sex, which I can only assume are meant to evoke laughter. If so, they were successful. Example: a Viking landing in early North America is turned into a human pincushion when a flood of arrows cover every front surface of the man, leaving the rest of the party untouched. Later, a severed arm holding a sword flys across the battlefield, impaling another man.
Obviously flawed but still interesting thus far.
Interestingly, it’s only called Eden here in the US of A. I’ve been trying to get my PIC to watch. Worth it, then?
We enjoyed S1 quite a bit, but S2 was dragging and we gave up on it.
Diane Morgan’s joker is one of the funniest things I’ve seen although Gbemi’s reaction just took it to even higher levels.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I’m gutted that I watched the next three episodes without stopping or realising I should. So yeah, I get the pre-sad. This is one of the most delightful shows out there (with Taskmaster also there). At least you have S1 to watch? I’m going to rewatch I think.
I don’t think so unless you’re like me and enjoy silly trashy shows. There is no logic to this. They just seem to be trying to create intrigue around young beautiful people having sex with each other. (Yesterday there was an episode with two people having their way with one another on the beach and I can’t tell if the producers were having a laugh or actually thought all the crusted sand on them that evoked every bit of sand that would get everywhere was actually sexy).
I think it might be kind of boring but I’ve recently needed brain free demands and appreciate the Spanish practice.
Gbemi’s lonely tear running down her cheek! Yeah, that was in the little clip, and once I saw Diane Morgan I knew I had to watch. Unfortunately (?), we already watched S1, but that’s not to say we couldn’t rewatch (especially given my sieve-like memory for shows since covid).
We are in the final season of Taskmaster, so… there’s even more reason for sadness ![]()
OK, I think we might be talking about two different things, then. Eden — as I just learned (or re-learned after forgetting it) — is actually a movie.
As for my enjoyment of silly trash shows… I tried watching the most recent season of Love Island: USA when I was laid up after my surgery and couldn’t do much of anything useful.
Well, I suppose I could’ve read a book or 10 instead, or written a few songs, or do literally anything than watch that trash, BUT I was intrigued by this particular season’s popularity, evidenced by public viewings of episodes, etc.
I got about 10 episodes in — which may sound like a lot, but there are THIRTY-SEVEN of them — when I could feel my brain starting to hurt. Any more and it would’ve leaked out of my cephalic orifices.
I am hoping for you that the Eden show you’re watching is ever so slightly more intelligent ![]()
S21 starts in two weeks (9 April?)!
Well, hurrah with highly polished brass knobs on! About time!

I started Mystery Road: Origin, Season 2
Watched the first two episodes of Detective Hole on Netflix last night, so far so good. It’s a Norwegian/Scandi crime series with some solid acting and writing. Will def finish the series.
You’re made of stronger stuff than I am. Watched the first episode last night, and it was too intense, gory, and violent for me!
Agree, but I pushed through it and I’m ready for more!! ![]()
I’ve read all of Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole books so I am also enjoying the series.
The protagonist’s name is … Harry Hole?
The 12-yr old boy in me is howling with laughter.
