What are you watching? - 2025

Finished up the Martin Scorsese documentary on Apple TV. It’s well done and the breadth of his career is pretty staggering.

Need to figure out what 60-40% political news is. Supreme Court stuff? Every day is a sh*tshow of mind boggling events and news. Exhausting.

Watched Frankystein last night, thought it was very good if not a bit long. Would recommend.
Started watching PLURIBUS and I’m also enjoying it as well. 2/2 good shows is pretty rare for me these days  :pinched_fingers:

I sent you a DM regarding this.

Very much looking forward to this one, as the cast includes the incredibly funny Jimmy Carr.

Enjoyed first two episodes of Down Cemetery Road. Twisty thriller written by Mick Herron, the Slow Horses author. It’s on Apple TV.

We had a fairly early dinner, so the entertainment part of our evening also started earlier than usual.

We watched the very good American Sweatshop about a woman who works at a private firm that deletes unsavory internet content, and who comes across a particularly savage video that continues to haunt her.

A German director and cinematographer, and one of the characters is played by Christiane Paul, who was also in the fascinating, yet sadly discontinued Counterpart.

If you’re not already disgusted by the internet, you most certainly will be after watching this

We also watched the first two episodes of Death By Lightning. Really great cast & engaging. The political games played don’t seem to have changed a lot since

I started falling asleep during E2, so I may have to rewatch some of that :grimacing:

We finished it last night. Really excellent. I already raved about the cast: Michael Shannon as James Garfield, the incredible Matthew MacFadyen as Charles Guiteau, the equally fantastic Shea Wigham as Roscoe Conkling (who is reminiscent of a certain politician we’re dealing with these days) Betty Gilpin as Garfield’s wife, and Nick Offerman as the VP.

Very well written, funny dialog — can’t recommend this enough!

He is one of my favorites. His voice is incredible. Loved him in Ripper Street. His wife, Keely Hawes, ain’t too shabby either!

He’s just great at playing characters that are a little (or a lot, in the case of Charles Guiteau) “off.”

Haven’t seen his partner in anything so far.

We finally subscribed to Apple TV and started Slow Horses last night

She was in a season of Line of Duty and Bodyguard

Ah! It’s been a while since we watched Line of Duty, so it’s a bit fuzzy.

I usually have to ask my PIC what we watched last night, so I’m def not one of those who can recap E3 of S2 of anything to anyone, ever

As someone who lives under a rock, we just caught on to Traitors. We have seen Season 3 and (half) Season 1 hosted by Claudia. We need to catch up to all the iterations and…Celebrity Traitors(!). Anyone else get hooked on this at any point?

Yes. I started watching UK Traitors in its first series. I’ve not really been into the US version although should check out its S2. And S2 of Australia (I think it was that) was one of the best endings i’ve ever seen.

But UK Celebrity Traitors has been such a treat. I’m so sad it’s over. (You might see I asked above if anyone were watching). It was so good and I actually gasped in the finale.

Also: All the UK Traitors I’ve seen have been hosted by Claudia Winkleman. She’s clearly a key part of the vibe.

It might be that you’re getting confused between different national iterations? I find it hilarious how the US one plays up the Scottishness in such a camp way.

I’m really not digging Slow Horses tbh, Gary Oldman is a great actor but his smelly, grumpy and gruff character gets kinda boring to me. The rest of the cast just doesn’t do it for me either. I stopped watching after season two, but might give it another shot. YMMV.

My DC only enjoyed the first half of Season 1 Episode 1, so we might not continue.

We watched the first two epis when it first came out, and I had the same reaction you have.

I’m very glad we gave it another shot. It is really well done, and the cast absolutely grows on you. Although I will say Oldman’s farts never did, but he’s still great in it.

Keely Hawes is a great actress. She and Matthew Macfadyen met while filming the British TV series Spooks:

I’ve really liked her in Line of Duty and The Durrells.
