D’oh! How could I forget The Studio.
I cooled on it (because I ceased to like any of the characters), and then I warmed to it again.
It was far from brilliant, but entertaining enough.

Also, Stick and Murdebot.
I love Acapulco and Loot and Schmigadoon for light hearted content. Slow Horses is probably one of my favorite shows right now and also love The Studio (grew up in Hollywood and love LA content) and new Emma Thompson show with characters based on a Mick Herron book.
Yesss, Murderbot!
Just checked IMDb and looks like he’s in one episode as well as Honey Chandler. Also Jerry Edgar in 2 episodes and Titus in 3 episodes. Yay.
We’re watching the tv series Smoke (2025). It’s a crime drama about arson and, so far, seems to benefit from being watched while consuming adult beverages. I give Taron Egerton credit for trying to extend his range. Jurnee Smollett is always fun to watch, though. Dennis Lehane is the show’s creator.
Yeah, I just looked that up for you. Late as usual.
Presumed Innocent, Wolfs if you like Clooney & Pitt.
Thanks for the suggestions y’all! I’ll check everything out, except Ted Lasso, watched a few episodes and couldn’t get into it.
I just saw Mo briefly in episode 7.
Revenge (2017) - dir. Coralie Fargeat
A cute young North American girl, 20-something Jen, is seeing an older and very married French businessman, Richard. They have arrived via helicopter to his isolated desert villa for a weekend. But Richard’s friends, Dimitri and Stan, drop by a day early for their hunting trip. Richard has to make awkward intros. A night of low-key drunkenness ensues, and sexy dances are danced. The next morning, Richard leaves to do some paperwork for the hunting permits, and Stan wants to pick up from the sexy dance last night. Stan will not take no for an answer. When Dimitri accidentally stumbles in, interrupting them, he elects to close the door, turn up the volue of the TV in the living room, and go swimming.
Richard returns. Discussions are had. Here’s a big fat check, Jen, and a cushy job in Canada and we’ll call it even, ok? No. Not ok. So, naturally, Richard decides to throw Jen off a cliff and leave her for dead. But she’s not. And she is, understandably, PISSED.
Before breaking into the mainstream with the absolutely bonkers The Substance last year, Fargeat took the old rape-revenge exploitation of I Spit on Your Grave or Last House on the Left, and gave it an ACTUAL feminist reading. There’s little exploitive-feeling nudity. If the camera lingers on any naked body, it’s largely Richard’s. Much like The Substance, the goings-on are anything but subtle. The back half of the film crosses well into that sort of heightened, camp territory, maybe not QUITE to the extent of The Substance, but it’s clearly a place Fargeat likes to go. These people are somewhere between the nearly entirely allegorical characters in The Substance and a more grounded, “realistic” take. The violence here is extensive. People bleed A LOT. Like, a nearly comical amount.
Also like The Substance, the film is strikingly well photographed. Fargeat loves and really knows how to make interior sets work, but the landscapes here also serve an important function, to isolate and challenge the characters, and SHOW that isolation.
If you dug The Substance, you should absolutely check out Revenge. And if it wasn’t your thing, you should probably give this one a miss for many of the same reasons.
4 out of 5 hard-ass points for cauterizing a wound with a red hot beer can
I enjoyed Revenge a lot back when it hit Shudder!
We started watching Revival on SyFy & liked it enough to binge all available episodes. Next one drops tonight.
Then we watched a couple more epis of Such Brave Girls S2, which continues to be brilliantly cringe.
Revival is based on an excellent comic book series of the same name. I am watching the series and enjoying it, as well!
I think I saw that in the credits. I’m not a comic book person, so all those shows are totally new to me
I decided to watch The Bear, since I’ve never seen it. After about 2.2 seasons, I’m about to bail. The main fcking reason is that every fcking word out of every fcking person’s fcking mouth is fck. It’s fcking distracting. Also, the fcking Bear character is fcking boring.
I never made it through the second season. Too much yelling to create “drama.”
