Will look into it!

The only reason I watched.
If you like Javier Bardem, you might like this, his first significant role as an adult. Penelope Cruz’s debut as well. Directed by Bigas Luna, highly underrated. No spoilers but hilarious.
Pretty sure I did at the time, but it’s been so long I remember nada
Looks like they met on the set, but didn’t get together till 2007.
Thx, we’ll check it out!
We tried watching Fréwaka, an Irish “horror” flick entirely in Irish. It was too slow for us
Pivoted to the finale of Your Friends and Neighbors, which tied everything together nicely.
Hints at a possible second season, too, although I’m not sure we’ll watch it. Jon Hamm is pleasant enough to observe, but we thought the writing was a bit weak.
Finally watched the Paul Reubens (Rubenfeld) documentary last night, but HBO Max was messing with us in a strange way: what was listed as E1 actually turned out to be E2, and randomly switched over to “E2” (but really E1) as we were watching it
We then watched the actual E1 about his earlier life and developing the character he became famous for, along with his heartbreaking decision to go back into the closet for the sake of a more palatable protagonist, and for the fame & recognition he was so desperate for.
Infuriating to recall the rampant homophobic smear campaign against him, too. So glad times have changed /s
Highly recommend.
I watched Nonnas, it was entertaining. Now watching The Residence, very good, and Dept.Q, I’m a fan of Matthew Goode and Edinburgh so this one is a win, win for me.
Enjoying Dept. Q. Takes a minute to really get going.
i thought this was mentioned here before? i restarted Hulu recently to catch up on a few things. first on my list was this film. i really missed the boat by not getting over to the theatre to see it; they should have gone full IMAX filming this one.
it’s gorgeous to look at and largely silent. i guess the ‘plot’ revolves around the long simmering romance of our two leads and it’s very effective. still, just hovering in that kitchen would have been more than enough for me.
In the 2024 thread, but not in much depth. I loved that movie so much. Bonus: Annoy your companion by whispering the names of all the dishes you recognize.
Started Death Valley on BritBox last night. Set in Wales with a police woman and a retired actor who played a cop on tv solving crimes. It’s got some humor weaved into the mystery and we enjoyed it.
oh, I did. insufferable.
I watched the first three episodes of Stick, with Owen Wilson and Marc Maron, on Apple TV. It’s cute.
I finished all 8 episodes of Adults on Hulu (also appearing weekly on FX). It’s about totally clueless 20 somethings living together, and trying to navigate adulthood). It was funny, cringey, and gross at times (especially episode #6 entitled Roast Chicken).
We’re finishing up the last season of Big Mouth and it’s created by same people as Adults. Not sure I want to see actual humans doing the gross things that go on at times in Big Mouth. Maybe it being animated makes it funnier and more appealing.
We really enjoyed Transplant. Thanks for mentioning new episodes were released.
We tried watching Studio Q. Didn’t get into it.
I will have to check this one out.
We’re having trouble finding the right crime show right now.
We have been watching Blue Bloods, and I’m pretty bored. We still have about 10 years worth of seasons to go. LOL.
Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) - dir. Christopher McQuarrie
As I mentioned in my M:I collection post, these films are really less about plot, or character in any specific way. There is Tom Cruise, as Ethan Hunt, in an exotic an picturesque location, going after some MacGuffin or other via running, jumping, flying, falling, swimming, climbing, dangling, or otherwise placing himself in unnecessary danger. There is a lot of hand-wringing among the supporting cast about whether he can actually pull it off, or should even be trusted to try. Complications ensue, sacrifices are made, and the red countdown timer hits zero JUST as the key is to be inserted, the wire cut, or the safety reengaged. The details themselves are nearly immaterial.
This is especially true in this latest episode, itself a continuation of last year’s Dead Reckoning Part One. I mean, don’t worry, they’ll catch you up quick, but not since M:I 2 has the series so openly jettisoned even the mild gestures toward plausibility or comprehensibility. There’s a rogue AI that’s goig to take over the world’s nukes and end mankind, and we have to find magic key 1 that fits in magic lock 2 or poof. n
Not that any of it matters. We want to see Tom do his thing, and boy does he. More dangling from planes, more extreme SCUBA diving, and a LOT more of Cruise (who is 62(!!)) fighting while wearing nothing but boxer-briefs. Hey, if I looked that good, I’d probably show off, too. I went and sprung for a real IMAX showing, and noticing the aspect ratio shift became a fun game of “oh boy, here come’s some good stuff!” If you normally give those sorts of ‘premium’ theater experiences a miss, well, I do too. In this case, I think it’s worth it. And there are only a handful of properties I’d say that about. Nolan and Cruise/McQuarrie know how to use IMAX. Cameron knows how to use 3D and high frame rate.
This is indulgent filmmaking. While there are smaller set pieces thoughout, this thing has a nearly three hour run time. The first two hours contain much, much more expositional drama (see the aforementioned hand-wringing) that seems strictly necessary, but that leaves that last hour as a nearly non-stop chase that barely allows you to catch your breath. That extra length also leaves room for the reintroduction of a minor character from the very first film that has one of the best long-term setup/payoffs I’ve seen in a while.
Is this a good film? Who cares!? See Tom run. Run, Tom, run.
7 out of 10 seconds for this review to self destruct.
You’re welcome. The lead actor is very good. It’s too bad that this 4th season is the last.
I’ve heard it being referred to as the “Ted Lasso of Golf.”
