What are you watching? - 2025

Or a remake.

That won’t be allowed.

it’s on TCM starting today. they usually keep their rotating library up for a month after re-release. an all time classic. made at a time when the US was still isolationist (pre Pearl Harbor).

Candlesticks always make a nice gift.

Ah, another fan!

It could be one of my picks for favourite feelgood movies. Curious what other people’s picks would be?

We did a double-feature last night, starting with The Wasp, a tightly wound, twisted psychological thriller about two women who knew each other in middle school reconnecting over an outrageous proposition. One of the best movies we’ve watched this year.

Second up was Malum, a very creepy horror flick (finally, after a bunch of duds!) about “a rookie police officer willingly taking the last shift at a newly decommissioned police station in an attempt to uncover the mysterious connection between her father’s death and a vicious cult.”

Highly recommend both movies.

Re-watching G. O. T on the new TV, 55” 4K UHD, and it’s like I’m watching it for the first time :exploding_head::pinched_fingers:t2:. What a time to be alive!!

I endorse your list whole-heartedly. Esp. Midnight Run. I saw that in the theater w/ my ex-, the first summer I DIDN’T go home between semesters. Grodin is one of the funniest straight men ever. He’s like more tightly wrapped Albert Brooks.

Lol… I’ve seen this movie, but a long time ago, Of course, two of those actors are also in American Pie, another classic.

Finished the final season of Sex Education, which I overall enjoyed very much, despite it being very over the top sometimes — especially in the last season. But the actors were all believable, and wouldn’t it be great if teens (or even adults) were as eloquent in discussing their innermost feelings and problems with one another. Everyone ends up making up. Balm for a weary soul.

As for our evening movie, we watched the rather insane The Soul Eater (French w/subtitles). Def not for the faint-hearted.

We started watching Somewhere Quiet after that, until my PIC realized we’d seen it already. I’ll take his word for it

On to the 1st episode of the second season of We Are Lady Parts (fun), and a couple more episodes of Laid — also fun.

Need to rant a little! I started watch Rebus, an Irish police procedural on Tge Roku Channel. Watched the first episode thinking it was free, then (when I go to episode 2) it says I have to pay for a subscription. Not nice!!! Don’t recall anything before the first episode warning of that. Sheesh!!! The show is available a couple other places, but all are pay services I don’t have.

It’s not that the show was that great; it’s just the principle. These services are getting a bit grabby lately. I pay for YouTubeTV’s standard service and lately some shows I’ve recorded have begun running ads you can’t fast forward through any more. Sheesh again!!!

Shoutout here for the Kanopy streaming service, offered at no charge by the public library in our (US) town. No charge, no ads, just by using your library card.

We’re currently working through seasons of Father Brown, which is cozy, non-challenging viewing.

Hoopla is something similar. I use both (Hoopla & Kanopy) for free streaming and no commercials.

Watched Heretic last night. I always liked Hugh Grant as an actor, but I’ve really been enjoying his nastier side.

Then started in on Mr. Mercedes, based on a Stephen King novel I never heard of, which is produced by him and directed by David E. Kelley. Extra bonus: Brendan Gleeson in the lead role. There are 3 seasons, so this will be a bit of a commitment, but we like it so far. Waiting for the first King cameo to happen

First episode’s free

You’ll find a lot of this on any platform that wants to serve as a third party hub. Roku, Amazon, etc all arrange a few teaser episodes (or sometimes a single season) of a show for free, in the hopes you’ll get hooked and want to continue enough to subscribe to whatever channel it is (History Channel, Motortrend, and Britbox do this a lot).

I always take a look through the ‘all episodes’ list, wherever it is. If you see a bunch of :lock:or :heavy_dollar_sign:icons, you’ve got a teaser episode.
