I drink sweetened home made ice tea 365 days a year. It’s how I start my mornings. I am not a coffee or soda drinker. Tea is my beverage of choice.
Sixty years ago our Speedy Mart, which became a 7-11, came out with cola flavored slurpees. So good despite the brain freeze and tooth enamel rotting feel. The machine never worked on hot days😟.
I make sun-tea year round with a mix of decaf in an ancient 1 gallon pitcher. 3 to 4 bags, filtered water, a couple of hours of brewing, a few hours of refrigeration and I’m good. Sweetening, dependent on type of tea, with stevia.
Cola Slurpees ™
In downtown Vancouver I encounter a Slurpee ™ machine with BOTH Coke and Pepsi flavors. Finally a chance to really compare and contrast.
Coke was the clear winner. Pepsi is just too damned sweet.
Japan has provided me with some neat beverage choices over the past few days (all c/o their convenience stores):
- Watermelon shake
- Mint seltzer
- Peach oolong tea
- Hops seltzer
That seems to be one of the trendy NA-drinks of the last 2-3 years - hardly any brewery (or supermarket) here without it
Hmm, I’ve noticed a lot more pistachio-laden snacks and kombucha than hops drinks, but it seems like a worthy NA-choice on those already very tempting shelves.
n.b. I visited Toono (Iwate) last year, which seems to be a big hops producer. That’s where I first had the seltzer, but in that case it was much more jimoto than anything else.
