What are you baking? August 2023

My favourite plum cake—the Plum and Cardamom Sweet Bread (cake) from In the Sweet Kitchen. Definitely more work than the other popular one, but it’s not late summer/back to school without it for me.

Hermit cookies. Originally from a Maida Heatter recipe that’s changed some over decades of making this cookie.

I like to make French toast topped with cream cheese, apricots, raspberries and icing sugar. Not really a recipe but one of my favourite ways of having them.

The apricot pistachio squares recipe from Smitten Kitchen is a stone cold stunner.

Ottolenghi’s apricot, walnut and lavender cake is delicious, with and without lavender, or with all almond flour and no walnuts.

If you have any favorite plum recipes, apricots will work well in them, too.

Yup, since I have a plum tree, I’ve done lots of swapping them in for apricots in cakes, etc. The same range of flavors is complementary to both.

Thank you, this looks like a winner!

Thanks! I don’t make too many stone fruit baked goods multiple times, so I don’t have any favourites, apart from David Lebowitz’s Texas Peach Cobbler, which I like a lot. I do tend to swap fruits in recipes or mix fruits.

Sounds delicious.

Beautiful.

From Edd Kimber’s Small batch baking: peanut butter cookies. Recipe is supposed to make 6, but I got 9. You are also supposed to dip them in chocolate, but I was too lazy. Based on the Ovenly recipe. Gluten free, so going to a friend with celiac disease.
