A Wendy’s dedicated thread
I tried the Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger at a Canadian Wendy’s today. I liked it. 2 grilled cheese sandwiches sandwiching a burger patty and caramelized onions. $7.79 CAD where I live. Prices may vary across Canada.
A single Cheeseburger Combo with fries and a drink currently costs $12.19 CAD before tax. It’s possible to swap the soda pop for an iced coffee or Frostyccino, which is what we did.

Maybe I’ll start doing that!
i think their quality is highly tied to region. the only thing that gets buzz in my area (norcal) is the spicy chicken sandwich but i’ve never tried it.
Good to know!
I tried the spicy chicken sandwich in Toronto about 8 years ago. I’m not really a fast food chicken sandwich person, or a spicy chicken sandwich person! It was okay. I would rather order a cheeseburger or a limited time offer of some sort.
I tend to get my fast food fried chicken fix, without the bun, often just fried chicken thighs, at Mary Brown’s, a Canadian chain.
I like the original coating more than the spicy coating when I have a choice.
I was surprised that my Wendy’s Cobb Salad was pretty good a few months ago. It was my first time to order a fast food Cobb salad .
On my various trips to North America over the years, I’ve always rated Wendys the best of the fast food burger chains.
Never tried them in the UK - they do have 44 outlets but none near me.
Occasionally they’ll do a fish sandwich that I quite like, but it’s not a year round thing.
I am appreciating the expanded flavors of frosty. The original chocolate is obviously the best one, but the mint (around the holidays) and salted caramel are good as well.
1280mg sodium! I guess that’s not unusual for FF places.
It was also a big sandwich and contains at least 3 slices of American cheese.
I don’t order fries for myself, partly to keep the salt, fat and carbs down when I enjoy a fast food burger or sandwich.
My main source of salt today will be that sandwich.
Breaded/ battered shellfish, fish or chicken contains a ton of salt, too.
And 39g of fat & 700 cals.
And Cafo meat with no flavor
Agree - for their burgers, at least. Not that it’s a particularly high bar, but I’ll take a Wendy’s burger over McD’s, Burger King, Culver’s, Sonic, etc. Dairy Queen, Jack-in-the-Box and Whataburger have decent burgers, but they’re not nearly as ubiquitous/nationwide as the big three.
I also considered Wendy one of the better options of all the common fast food burger chains in our region. Back in the 80s, they also had a semi-decent salad bar that was a great option if you didn’t want a burger. Wendy’s trips are few and far between now, but I have tried their spicy fried chicken sandwich and I think it’s fairly decent. But for those who (used) use Twitter or any other major social media outlet, their social media manager(s) are top notch - absolutely entertaining and worth the follow, regardless if you are a fan of their food or not.
It’s been many years, but I recall frequenting Wendy’s for a few of their chicken sandwiches.
Wendy’s French fries dipped in their chocolate Frosty always hits hard.
I am a fan of their Jr bacon cheeseburger ! I find it very tasty-just the right size for me-and pretty healthy for a fast food lunch!
It could have extended into the 90s. Honestly, any time period before 2000 is kind of a blur to me. Memories fading fast…
Mom parents used to favor Wendy’s because they had things like the baked potato and the salad bar on their menu. Despite living here for 50-60 years, they never really embraced burgers, and certainly not fast food burgers - maybe occasionally with a nicer burger chain.
I like their fries when they’re hot, and I dip them in their god awful, chock full of chemicals sweet and sour sauce. I also thought their chicken nuggets were better than the original mystery chicken lump from competitors. I appreciate their value menu - what was 99 cents for a period of time - it was enough to get a small portion of something to fill a craving.
Do they still have chili? I always thought that was unique for a FF place. Haven’t been to one in years though.
They did as of the fall of last year when I last visited. I used to get the chili on occasion too, with cheese. Is it a good rendition of chili by any means? Probably not too most people who enjoy chili, but it was a good alternative again if you didn’t want a burger or chicken sandwich.
I doubt Wendy’s will ever take chili off the menu, because it’s how they get rid of extra burger patties. Their service model is to have a burger ready for the customer within 10 seconds of the order being finalized (that is, paid). With that expectation, that means the patties need to be on the flattop and cooking before the customer has even started placing their order. The cooks are supposed to look at the line of customers and guess how many patties they’ll need, literally estimating that “that person looks like they’ll order a single, those two big guys will probably order a triple each,” etc, and throw that many patties on the flattop to start cooking. Patties that don’t get into a burger within the time limit (I forget how long) get tossed aside into a bucket. Once that bucket is full, those cooked patties get broken up and a bag of ‘chili seasoning’ is thrown in. The whole thing gets mixed up, et voila! Chili.
