Weird sh!t you do with food

Does anyone else take great pleasure in stripping all the white stuff off of a slice of orange, or is it just me?

What other weird stuff do you do with/to foods?

I serve frozen Chinese dumplings with EVOO and grated pecorino romano. Weird enough?

Perfect.

Mandarines and clementines are prime candidates for this. Then I jave to track down all the strings even though I try to corral them with the peel. I know they’re ok to eat, but I doubt if they actually get digested.

I drizzle maple syrup on a slice of fresh bread. ( idea from @buttertart’s dad )

A drizzle of maple syrup is also good on tyropita or grilled cheese. Also good on plain yogurt, and with fried chicken.

Are the frozen dumplings a bit tough to chew?

Fried eggs drizzled with maple syrup while they’re cooking in the pan. Absolutely delicious! Thank you, Martin Picard.

I’ve just always done this, for as long as I can remember.

There are also certain meals / dishes where I go full OCD, i.e. I need to have each ingredient/part of the dish on my spoon or fork before putting it in my silly mouf — e.g. the traditional German asparagus feast with smoked ham, potatoes, parsley butter (needs asparagus, ham & parsley-buttered potato), or chicken noodle soup (chicken, noodle, carrot, broth).

I’ll have to think of other examples of my weirdness

Tacos from trucks are made with two tortillas each, and have too much filling to fold easily. So, I tease them apart and divide the filling between them.

That’s not weird, that’s brilliant.

Why not both?

Oh, right. I like yelling at uncooperative food, be it during meal prep (thus my nickname The Angry Chef), or while eating.

Damn food >shakes fist<

agree! delish!

Japanese laugh when I say I spread natto on toast at home. Eat it almost every weekend.

In Japan I look forward to eating it with rice in the morning. Put all the typical neba-neba ingredients on top of rice in the same bowl. I only find it “weird” that I despise certain slimy ingredients but not in Japanese cuisine. Yamaimo being a notoriously slimy thing.

I also like smoked oysters and sour cream on toast. Or smoked oysters topped with sour cream without toast.

Just to clarify: I wasn’t talking (or asking) about weird food combinations, as I believe at least one such thread already exists.

I was more interested in idiosyncratic behavior(s) with certain foods that you are aware of. Shirley, I can’t be the only one.

Thanks for your attention to this matter :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Doesnt everyone?

Satsumas and nardocotts are more fun than actual oranges.
