Wegmans Manhattan

The seafood is very good - best of any supermarket I’ve seen in Manhattan. But that’s pretty much the only thing that impressed me.

I like various independent markets (like Citarella, forgetting the name of the one I like on the UES, since it’s been 6.5 years since my last visit) that are still trucking, and Zabar’s, more than Whole Foods, when I’m in Manhattan! I miss your city!

When our local Wegmans opened well over 20 years ago, rumors of a gourmet supermarket abound. Food peeps here were excited, and rightly so: a knowledgeable butcher, a well-sorted seafood counter, great cheese selection, great variety of produce, some of it not available elsewhere (like aloe, or dragonfruit, or … fresh truffles).

It went downhill for the most part & seems to have made its own brand a priority — which isn’t bad, but I mostly shop elsewhere now and only go there for specific things, just as I do with Aldi and TJ’s.

Same experience with the Wegmans here. The only thing thats different now is that the the store workers are several zillion levels above the other chains.

They are great, and I’ve come to develop a good rapport with many of them due to my grocery shopping service

I love the Wegman’s in Buffalo. I haven’t been lately only because I haven’t been crossing the border.

Their pharmacy — which I sometimes use when my neighborhood independent pharmacy can’t accommodate me — is also great. Leaves CVS and Walgreens in the dust. Get my vaxxes there.
