(US) Election Night Eats & Drinks

We were lucky to be around for Guy Fawkes Night (has it been renamed?) visiting friends near Nottingham in '06. Fun evening.

Nah. Naming is interchangeable between the two.

I went on a Bikes and Bourbon trip in and around Lexington in May. I drove there and thus was able to come home with a trunk quite full of bourbon from the various distilleries we visited. I am not much for emergency preparedness but for tomorrow, I purposely stocked up.

Burger and a Manhattan sounds excellent, but so does the white bean and fennel casserole!

I just had a Manhattan, and the mister just had a burger, so we’ve completed our practice run.

The one I drank last! At each distillery I could identify my favorite of the ones we tasted but I don’t think my palate could remember previous tastings.

I am in the middle of this bottle and really like it:

Currently sipping tequila, giving my liver a light work out before the serious night.

NYT White Bean and Fennel Casserole

I’ve got “all the things”! Have you made it before? Did it earn a repeat?

Today several of my colleagues were laid off, my former colleagues went on strike, and my performance review was on the calendar… all before 2 PM. The idea that tomorrow is going to be 100X more stressful is nearly nauseating.

As for food tomorrow:

I had a ham slice for grillin on the menu, but I might need to pivot to something more time-intensive so I can distract myself. I almost gave in to the Stress Eating Urge tonight (a pint of ice cream in the car, anyone?) but I fended it off… whether I’ll be able to do so again tomorrow remains to be seen.

Chinese takeout night is sounding more and more attractive.

I might chill a bottle of Riesling.

I made the mistake of saving some very old performance reviews. I have no idea why I saved them or how they got stuck in a box with some “important” papers, but I recently stumbled across them.

After reading them, I was infuriated (with myself) that I put up with such nonsense (back then) for a really crappy paycheck. I should have changed jobs after that first review.

I so wish I had immediately shredded those documents after bringing them home.

Yikes. I hope tomorrow (today, now, I guess - I am having trouble sleeping) is no where near as bad as you feel it could be. Goes for all of us. Good luck mig.

Hope all goes well you today and the coming period, and that what you hope for comes to pass.

Oh, i feel for you.

I had to deliver the news of a layoff to the guy who trained me recently. It was awful. (He took it incredibly well, but it killed me.)

And I just got severely upbraided for a situation I didnt create, had no ability to pre-empt, and broke my neck to buffer, but there had to be a scapegoat.

Not at all a “mine is worse than you”…just a Holy Crap its rough here in the trenches.

Sincere hopes it gets better.

I figured out years ago that whatever the ‘bot’ in management felt about my performance was just their ‘opinion’. It took a long while to get there, tho.
