(US) Election Night Eats & Drinks

Tuesday is Election night in the US, and it’s a loaded one.

If you’re going to watch, are you planning specific food and/ or drink?

Let’s keep political comments out of it (eg: “how is this a close race?”) and stick to the comfort we might seek from comestibles, please!

I suspect I’ll be curled in a fetal ball in a corner of the closet, clutching a bottle of antacid and a bottle of pain relievers and weeping softly.

Don’t recall what I ate on election night in 2020, but on Jan. 6 I remember making a big pan of kasha varnishkes, with fried onions cooked in schmaltz. For me that is the ultimate comfort food. I have my bow tie pasta at the ready this year :grimacing:

I can’t even imagine eating anything. I’m not even sure if I will be watching. Probably will be in bed with the covers pulled over my head.

i won’t be watching either. i’m on a full media blackout for the next few weeks. but i will throw on a few old movies to pass the time. for comfort food my formula is pretty simple, good pasta + good cheese thrown together. in this instance i might throw in a side of thorazine.

It’s either heroin or champagne, but def not a food-focused night.

Ooh delicious!

There’s a Russian place not far from me that makes kasha with mushrooms and also a decadent mushroom stroganoff served with kasha — both just delicious!

I’ll be just off a redeye so not sure how much energy or awakeness I will have to go along with the anxiety.

But.

Maybe I’ll convince my friends to have a small get-together earlier in the evening, and we can all go home and crawl under our covers as things get more harrowing.

If we do, I’ll do a test run of thanksgiving apps and maybe my SIL’s quick comfort lasagne (don’t any purists look this way — everything but the noodles is prepped in the microwave, jarred sauce, lots of cheese, bake to finish, and it’s delicious).

Or baked ziti. Or biryani. My brain will through ALL the comfort foods. And then we’ll probably order in Chinese :woman_facepalming:t2::roll_eyes:

Both Sunshine and I will be watching movies (DVD), so add us to that list.

Presently, I have chicken planned for Tuesday night – not for any particular reason – it just part of the normal rotation of meals and what is (presently) in the freezer.

I’m honestly tempted to continue our Shocktober into NOOOO :scream:vember with a double or triple feature of horror flicks that night :ghost:

Nice. Old Fashioneds woud be very good on my end. I have some interesting bitters and I could make some kind of interesting flavored syrup.

Sunshine likes comedies and Rom-Com(s), so we’ll probably watch something along those lines.

I did find a DVD at Goodwill of old M.A.S.H. episodes (with Alan Alda). So we might also enjoy those, as well. Some of those old re-runs are still fun to watch.

IYCBI, I’ve not seen a single episode of M.A.S.H.

It wasn’t nearly as popular in Germany as here. Wonder why

A tentative soundtrack to go with your heroin, bourbon, painkillers, and antacid.

TCM is showing A Face in the Crowd on Saturday evening. I’m recording it, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea to watch it on election night.

Pretty sure I’ll be stress-cleaning. (Or stress-gardening, depending on the time and how much light is available.)

Have every intention of turning ALL phone notifications off and not looking at a screen nor listening to any news.

Unsure how that will play out.

Earlier in the day I will have baked a birthday cake for my partner - who has been burdened with a birthday that falls on or very near to Election Day. Frustratingly, partner is having dental work that day.

Cannot fathom eating anything, and neither of us drink.

Am grateful to a relative who dropped off some smooth, older lineage pot they recently harvested. Hope that helps the psyche.

Also am a bit (understatement of the year) apprehensive of there not being a clear result that night … or, you know, week, or … .
