Ever since Kamala Harris was filmed shopping at the Pittsburgh store, FOX and the MAGAverse have been building a boycott aimed at bankrupting Penzey’s. The owner is offering a discount on giftcards and all orange/red seasonings/spices, through 9/15. The company has already lost thousands of customers who removed themselves from its mailing list and there’s a real chance the business may be doomed. More details in the Penzey’s FB page and probably elsewhere. The ball’s in our court, foodies!
I truly doubt this. Bill Penzey said he lost 3000+ email subscribers, but gained 7000+.
This has been ongoing since 2015 when he started posting about these issues, and the business is still going strong.
The sales? They’re great. Take them and use them. (I didn’t need anything but dried orange peel, but wasn’t going to drive to the Arlington, MA store just for that). But I doubt the business will go under.
Penzey’s is well-known for their political stance. I mean, their marketing emails are practically a litany of political statements and grievances. This is not a new thing, and conservatives / Rs have been boycotting them forever, not just since this incident.
They def made a choice when they decided to pick sides
And they’ve not suffered in the long run.
Nope, not one bit.
What has been ongoing? I’m guessing not sales! Maybe boycotts? I was wondering why the Penzey’s backdrop!
I take it you don’t get their emails.
I don’t, or at least not anymore. I now use Whole Spice, mostly because it is local for me. Occasionally I order freeze dried shallots from Penzey’s, and I get the catalog. I remember the commentary.
Sales have been ongoing since way before any political stances or boycotts.
I’ve been a fan of Penzey’s for many years. When they closed their store in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philly, I started ordering on-line from them. I like both their baking products (cocoa, vanilla, etc) and their cooking (I don’t want to admit how many varieties of paprika I have in my cabinet righty now, not to mention the blends I use. But damn, they have some good sales, so how can I resist?
They took a political stand a long time ago. I always thought it was risky for a business–any business–to take a public political stance. But Penzey’s is not a public company and so do not have to answer to shareholders. I’m sure there are some who will patronize Penzey’s because of their political views, others who will (and have) boycott them because of their views and still others who are unconcerned with a company’s politics.
They have great spices & herbs
I’m definitely a superfan of theirs, and thrilled when the postcard contest had Massachusetts as the first outside-of-Wisconsin brick and mortar store, and even more thrilled when they chose Arlington as their sole location!
I favor Market Spice, but now I have a reason to give Penzey’s some of my business. Thanks.
Please, OH PLEASE, let Trump go into the spice business!
I order their stuff all the time, but bowed out of their emails.
I don’t read them TBH. I mostly care about what’s on sale
Maybe not the smartest place to campaign in PA given that her base is activated already - and Pennsylvania is a place whre she has to draw beyond that base.
Well… PA is one of the battleground states, but…might we be veering dangerously close to going against the community guidelines here, i.e. no politics?
not stating any opinion pro or con!
