Updates and running commentary from our critters

As are the adults who put up with them. But I’m fine with that.

Yah, lot of adjustments to make!

I was under the impression that cats are (originally) desert dwellers. Perhaps these genes are still present in your cat??

Plausible. He also just wants what he wants. I’m pretty sure that is also wired into all cats at a genetic level.*

Our cat sitter contacted us last week and told us that our lil monkey boy hadn’t been eating very well, and seemed a bit sluggish. He goes through phases were the wet food isn’t appealing to him, and our vet had told us about 6 months ago that a few of his teeth might have to be removed at some point due to gum disease.

Our buddy went over to our place and checked on him & also brought some cat grass, which the chonk adores & apparently went to town on.

She got in touch again today and said he hadn’t had a BM since Sunday, was still sluggish and not eating — all of which may well be related (if it’s a tooth issue). As you can imagine we are worried, still being a full week away from returning home :frowning:

Our buddy is leaving for Berlin tomorrow (visiting us for our final weekend) en route to London, but we are hopeful he might be able to take our kitty to the vet today — if he can’t do it, we’ll find someone.

Please send positive vibes that it’s just teeth/gum issues.

I hope everything’s okay. It’s very stressful for me to leave Laszlo when we go on vacation, even when everything is fine, so I can imagine what you’re going through.

Thank you. We’re hoping for the best, of course. He’s only 11, too, and generally a very healthy cat.

Ack! I can’t imagine the stress - I hope it’s something simple and his toofies are bothering him. Fingers crossed!

Hopps is not a fan of Texas summers. Fortunately they are only seven or eight months long.

Even when one possessor of the abode has already provided sustenance to the furry creature, a second possessor of the abode is often deceived into providing more sustenance.

The furry creature’s deception intelligence far exceeds that of the possessors of the abode. :smirk_cat::smile_cat:

Thank you all for your good juju & kind thoughts!

Update from the chonkster: our friends took him to the vet & Facetimed us. He seemed alert and curious. His abdomen was sensitive to touch, so the vet took him back for x-ray / bloodwork (KA-CHINGGGG). They brought him back to the examination room to look at stuff, and he … uh … relieved himself right then and there :scream:

The x-ray showed that he was backed up. So, in short this was an $800 case of constipation.

Ouch. But of course we are terribly relieved it’s not anything serious.

:poop:

Whew! Sorry about the $$$, but glad to hear it’s nothing serious!

I grew up with an English setter. Great breed.

Absolutely. Ages ago we got our first from a breeder here called Feathers English Setters. Fast forward to about four years ago. We heard about Southwest English Setter Rescue and found Hopps. Since he was already old, as were we, he was free! (Don’t worry, we gave what he would have cost to SWESR.) In the process we learned that he, too, had come from Feathers and was actually at Feathers to be fetched. It was a great visit.

As someone who once spent $200 to find out her cat gets carsick, whew! that’s good, expensive news.

Sorry but I lol’d at this. I was wondering if he was backed up. I had a cat a few years ago that got constipated and ended up with a mega colon that required surgery. I ended up with a $3000 vet bill. Hopefully the chonkster will make a full recovery.
