Updates and running commentary from our critters

Poor little Ziggy. Yesterday morning he had an emergency visit to his vet. He was scratching and grooming like a madman - everywhere on his body - but he did have a raw spot on his leg. There was also a hairball in the cat bathroom. I put a cone collar on him but he wiggled out of it. Picked him up in the afternoon - after lab tests and exam the gave him a shot of depo-medrol (long lasting steroid) and a long lasting antibiotic. He’s calmer today; he wasn’t cat-napping yesterday at all. But now he needs to get a job with health insurance, to help his mom with the vet bills. :eyes: they’re worth it.

All of my kitties over the years have been love bugs. I have been so lucky. I’m grateful.

Dog folks: I love dogs, too. Can’t have one, so I hug my friends’ doggos.

What a darling

The first cat I ever had was a Siamese. All the rest have been either Siamese or Oriental Shorthairs I love the sound of incessant wailing.

I’ll give him a kiss from you. .

Their chattiness is truly special. Chonky makes so many different sounds you could write a book about it. Our feelings about it change through the course of the day (and night)

My boys have been all high pitched and soft voiced, although quite talkative. I had one special girl who sounded like a goat. A vet tech recorded her voice to use as her ringtone :joy_cat:

Chonky almost never shuts up. It’s both endearing and annoying as hell :joy_cat:

Unfortunately for me, Murphy is NOT “soft-voiced”. He’s got that low pitched but loud plaintive RRRROWW or WOAAWW where he’ll stand in the downstairs hallway WOAAWWing at me, even when I call him to come upstairs where I am. He Rrrroww’s all the way up the stairs (which he takes his damn time on) and then stands in the upstairs hallway and do the same thing until I say “Get your ass in her, cat!” and he’ll saunter in. I think he likes the hallway acoustics.

But he also has chirrups and brrrups?? and other noises that when I make them back him, he’ll reply with the same sound as we have our conversation. Most often, these conversations happen happen while I’m sitting on the toilet and he walks in to chat with me. :smirk: (Seriously - WHY do they have to be in the bathroom with you without fail?)

I have no idea why they have to be in the bathroom, but they do! When I was years younger, my first cat discovered how much fun bubbles from a bubble bath were … until she found out there was WATER under the bubbles … none of them understands why hoomans voluntarily subject themselves to water.

Mine will talk back to me if I make cat sounds - and mimic the tones. Maybe I can teach them to sing!

Our 17+ # black cat Owen, has become so more vocal in the last year or so. He has taught the 6# grandcat some of his calls. Her mother tells me she will roam their home, maybe looking for him, with the same vocalizations.
We can hear him start speaking downstairs and as he travels upstairs and through the hallways he is making all those noises, really yowls, that our other cats would only make on rides to the vet.
The Roommate can converse very well in this particular cat vernacular. They speak well together on the way down the stairs and the exchange is so fun to hear. Cat is so excited.
“Okay Dad, lets go get your coffee ready and my fud and then we can sit in the big chair together and I can nap while you drink your coffee and then go out for a walk and then…”. I imagine his voice would be like Sylvester, Jr. Cat has to be supervised outdoors; we have fox, coyote, bear, loose dogs and just a few weeks go, a BOBCAT!

Grandcat, such a petite pistol! At 4 years of age, she’s still a feline pinball. Click on the arrow to see the other two.
