Solar powered for evening activity?
You mention both The Sunshine Boys and yelling to be let in, so in my head I just hear āEntERRR!ā
Actually, I think thatās it, as both had the zoomies for a LONG time after dinner.
Natch. Our old man 15+# black cat, has been seeking out every ray he can find recently. Thatās tough because weāve been overcast and snowy. Even if there is a peek of sunlight, heāll find it, even if for a minute or two. If he were to go outdoors, heād find more patches of sunlight in the yard. love petting his warm coat in the sun.
I had a cat a few years ago that did the same. He was on his best behaviour the whole time I was away, regular bowel movements always in the litter box the whole time I was gone, but the day Iād come home heād leave a turd on the floor just inside the door to my apartment. It was his own odd way of welcoming me home.
Oh, he does use the litter box. Sometimes with less success than other times. Heās a big boy, and the litter box is smaller than the one we have at home.
I also love how he usually comes out of the bathroom (basement at home) flying through the pad / house while howling like a banshee.
Cats be weird
It is so entertaining how āblessed reliefā is acted out in our felines. I think that is why the parents named one of our Siamese, āBang-Powā. I wonder if this has been observed in the big cats in the wild?
Thatās a great question. Letās write a grant proposal to study this possible phenomenon.
I was taking car of a friendās cat a few years ago, that did the exact same thing (right by the front door).
She put a piece of Aluminum Foil on the floor right by the front door and the cat stopped that behavior.
This pet owner would place the aluminum foil down before she left (for her trip) and keep it there for about 3 days after her return. I have no idea why this worked, but it didā¦ perhaps it was the sound of the aluminum foil crunching under the catās feet ā who knows.
Itās a common method for cat owners to detract their cats from bopping around on kitchen counters, too. Must be a combo of the feel and sound.
a very old trick to stop cats from scratching upholstered pieces . . .
pin newspaper to the vertical āscratch postā areas.
the crinkly sounds deters.
which, does not always workā¦
Parker specifically doesnāt like metallic clinky or ringing noises. We keep slinky toys around for those moments he needs to be persuaded away from a surface.
My little guy just stuck his head in a Kraft paper delivery envelope. It didnāt even have kibble in it. He needs to learn.
Chonkās been weird about joining me in bed in the morningsā¦ maybe bc heās too used to hiding under it whenever another random fire alarm goes off in our building.
This morning, however, he finally shnuggled up next to me in his usual spot. Nope, canāt lie to the right of me. Has to be the left side, which required my moving more to the middle

PS: Looks like the boy could use another brushing sesh. The. Shedding. Never. Ends.
My girl always has to snooze on my right side. Always. And my little guy had his Big Boy Surgery yesterday. Sent me home with a collar of shame for him. HA. I could only get it over his head and around his neck by holding his favorite toy at the big open end, and he stuck his head through the hole. Then I tied the ties. He Houdiniāed his way out of it twice and I gave up. A neighbor down the hall left a soft collar outside my door; Iād have to knock him unconscious to put that on. So if heās gonna lick, Iām stuck. But I did put an end to his manic running around and playing (also verboten) by incarcerating him in a large Sturdi car shelter that Iāve had for years (fits across the back seat). Itās 3 ft long so thereās room for bed, box, and food. Heās pretty much resigned to his fate, gets plenty of treats, sleeps, only fusses at me when he sees me. I canāt spring him for 2 more days. I do reach in and pet him.
This is the shelter.
But whereās yours?
