Updates and running commentary from our critters

That essay you linked to above is a treasure. Perfectly expresses the deep bond between so many of us and the companion animals we cherish.

Thank you.

Makes me crazy when I read on NextDoor that someone’s cat has been run over. Keep them inside!!!

I got little Izzy’s ashes returned to me today. I’m not ready to open the box. His sister, who is 14 and has now lost 2 brothers, is going to get a new brother the 2nd week of November. I’m not sure I’m ready, but she needs a sibling. She calls for her late bro. She knows. New bro-in-waiting is a seal point Siamese. Name suggestions gratefully accepted.

You’ll just have to see that face, the the name will come to you.
We had Siamese when I was a kid, ‘Bang-Pow’ and ‘Olympia’ were siblings, so crazy they were.

Took us all but one month to head back to PAWS to fill the empty space The Dude left in our house and our hearts. I agree with others to wait and see what his character is like. In my experience, many cats don’t really listen to their names anyway (or are masters at ignoring being called :joy:). We had a lot of different ideas, most of which would’ve been a better fit than Rocky. Don’t even ask  but we call him a million different names.

His PAWS name was Eskimo, as he is a big head-butter

Parker definitely knows his name! But, my mom’s cats totally would ignore theirs.

My late mother had an orange tabby that she named “Ginger”. But the cat didn’t take to it. One day she called the cat “Gigi” by mistake and the cat suddenly responded. And from that day, “Ginger” became “Gigi”.

My kitties have always learned their names. What is chilling is that, when one of them dies, the survivor cat will startle when I say the name of the departed kitty.

I still can’t bear to open the ups box with Izzy’s ashes. It’s different when a cat is elderly and has had chronic medical issues. .

Our Dude’s ashes were scattered along with others’ in a field. He passed in our home after having survived on steroid shots for a few years. I still can’t look at his paw print or the pictures of his final night with us without completely losing it. It’s been 10 years.

Izzy should’ve had a much longer life :frowning:

She had to sit in my lap for the last 40 minutes of the work day. Productivity killer.
