Trip Report, Rioja, San Sebastián, Bilbao

I will try to keep up with this as much as possible, but two things might make it difficult. First and foremost, this is the first trip my husband (aka LLD) and I have had on our own in 20 years (since Lulu), and also we’re planning on mostly making meals of pintxos with lots of wine. Not so conducive to detailed reporting. We arrived in Laguardia yesterday, and massive thanks to all who gave me advice, most especially to @Maribel. This town is, in LLD’s words, perfect. We’re staying in Hospederia de los Paredes, in a very nice room with a balcony overlooking the town square, and the room is lovely. We mostly just walked from place to place yesterday fighting off jet lag with wine and food. Bar Velar on the square was lots of fun, as was another place that I didn’t catch the name of. Oops.

Tourism shots, and some food. Lots of anchovies to share, and porky stuff for LLD. The tortilla was very good. My favorite was probably the pepper stuffed with bacalao and fried.

Lovely, look forward to what you share. Miss Spain, need to plan a trip back soon.

The shot of the open doorway is gorgeous

Thanks but I was wondering where exactly in Laguardia. No worries tho, I’ll find it.

I asked LLD for help and he told me it was at Puerta de Paganos. Basically the western gate to the town. From that location you can look down at Ysios, which is kind of cool.

@LulusMom1 Please don’t apologize or feel pressure to report here. Any data points you can add here is icing on the cake (or whatever the savory analogy is because I don’t eat cake ).

Let’s say topping off the wine in the glass, or adding an extra tapa to the plate!

Beautiful (if chilly) day yesterday. Drove around a bit, saw the architectural sights. When I did the Camino I thought Viana was pretty, so I suggested we visit it. Happy to find my memory was correct, and it was moving to see pilgrims. Then back to Laguardia to eat. Bar Velar again. A special favorite was egg, tuna, mayonnaise, shrimp.

After eating we went to the cave below our hotel.

The sky was amazing yesterday- felt like you could reach up and touch the clouds.

We’re having a wonderful time. Off to San Sebastian today.

El Quijote & Ernesto’s have them

When I google “El Quijote gilda” the only food image that comes up is from my blog

I know the Gilda at Tia Pol looks more like Danny DeVito than Rita Hayworth
