Noticed my store had a sign limiting kimbap to 2 per person but they didn’t have any. Looks like this might be high demand.
HUGE YEA for the Meyer Lemon & Cream Yogurt you can now buy singly.
Nay for Bulgogi The only other Bulgogi I’ve had was highly seasoned, but this was blah. Not terrible, just no flavor. Not worth the price for me.
just made a version of that:) found a jar of meyer lemon curd from last year in the freezer — mixed a spoonful into some full fat greek yogurt.
NAY: cacio e pepe gnocchi. while the sauce is tasty, the gnocchi are mushy and don’t absorb it the same way spaghetti and linguini do.
Is the sauce separate?
I find with all the frozen gnocchi that pan-frying them first helps the texture a lot.
Has anyone written about cinnamon bun Jo-Jos? I love them! YAY
that’s been my experience, as well. unfortunately, the sauce. is not separate. just dump them in the pan, add a couple of tablespoons of water, aand the sauce forms as they cook.
From what our local TJs manager told me they can only order a limited number of cases each month. They come in and sell out very quickly. I’ve heard that some stores will let you know or even hold some things for people but can’t swear to that.
Meanwhile my local Asian store has three kinds, and restocks regularly! I just got two packs of the bulgogi ones and one vegetable. Trader Joe’s is doing their advertising for them!
I thought I had, but they’re a YAY for me too!
The frozen breaded chicken breasts are very nice to have on hand. Fussy little kids- and big ones- enjoy them. Convenient, quick and tasty. I was pleasantly surprised.
Is the sour cream always crazy thick? This could be regional as I think the dairy is sourced semi locally.
Huge YAY for the Brookie Caramel Candy Clusters. Soooo good and quite addictive. Crispy, caramelly, salty, chocolatey. Yum!
Also a YAY for the Cardamom Brown Sugar Buns in the fresh bakery department. Nice cardamom flavor, not too sweet, some sort of pastry cream inside. Heating them up in the oven would have made them even better. According to the TJ website these are made in Denmark, but unfortunately they are limited edition.
YEA to the jalapeño cream cheese wontons. The wontons get nice n crispy in the air fryer, and the filling actually has a bit of a kick.
MEH to the mini chicken tacos: bland tortilla, bland stuffing. They are filling for sure, but if ya have to cover them in a variety of condiments they’re kinda pointless IYAM
MEH to the lemon bars. I used to love these for their tartness, but either my tolerance for sweet flavors is even lower than when I last bought them or they changed the recipe. Too sweet.
Agreed on the YEA for the jalapeno cream cheese wontons. They were a big hit at our super bowl gathering.
I forgot a major NAY on the chili onion peanuts. I had those plus Sichuan peanuts I get at the Asian grocer (they are super-addictive), and the Sichuan peanuts were destroyed.
Hope I can dump those stupid chili onion peanuts at the next poker game
MEH for the Everything but the Bagel seasoned kettle cooked potato chips. The chips themselves are nicely crunchy, but the seasoning was a bit much for us. My husband didn’t like them at all and only ate 1 chip to try. I was ok with them so I ate more, but then my mouth tasted awful for hours. I suppose if you love everything bagels you’d love these chips, but we don’t.
Everything but has its place, but maybe not in 99% of products these days
FWIW, I have had packages of the fall seasonal Pumpkin Sticky Toffee puddings sold frozen, two per package, in the fridge (NOT frozen), for over 6 months. Today I removed the plastic wrap from one and nuked it for 30 seconds. Perfect - YEA!!!
I have seen a marked fall-off in produce quality, this year over last in the Maryland stores, to the point where I am not shopping TJs any longer for it. In the past 2 months, we had horrid berries, rank artichokes, and several things go bad in a day or two after buying. I get a much better deal at GW which is a large Asian market closer to my house than the nearest TJs.
I noticed a fall of in quality on the nuts and seeds as well. I can get superior nuts at just about the same price per lb from Mount Hope Wholesale and much better dried fruits from Nuts [dot] com at much higher pricing.
Since we do not eat refined carbs and many types of ultra processed foods we skip much of what TJs offers. When it comes to frozen, we get Asian dumplings and prepared foods frozen at either GW, Lotte Plaza, or H Mart with similar macros and much better quality for similar prices.
On the yeah side, their whole wheat tortillas are quite good.
For me, TJs is becoming more and more MEH overall. If it weren’t near my favorite dispensary, I would not stop in at all after our lousy produce issues.
