Trader Joe's 2024: YEA/NAY/MEH

That one’s my fave for store bought.

Yea to TJ’s dark chocolate chips in the gold bag. They’re delicious.

It looks as my local stores have all the holiday candy and cookies in.

Also noticed sweet and hot pepper jelly and maple mini marshmallows. Sacks of Meyer lemons at $1.99/lb are in, for those on the lookout.

Some non-food gifts…

Olive wood kitchen gear (there was also a sign for $5.99 bowls, but none on the shelf). The spatulas would make a nice stocking stuffer.

Candle and skincare advent calendars. The candle one doesn’t show the scents on the outside, says they’re inspired by some of their most populate items, so I guess food scents? The 12 Days of Beauty is $19.99 for essentially sample sizes (the box weighs nothing).

I didn’t see any of that at my store on Friday, but I’ll pop in tomorrow. I’d love one of the spatulas, and maybe an advent calendar!

A friend puts birthday cake kits together for the local food pantry - one cake mix, one can of frosting, a can of soda (usually sprite) and a square aluminum foil pan. This way, the recipient does need any other ingredients to make a cake.

I think the 12 pictures indicate the scents? Citrus, peppermint, pepper and orange, rosemary oil, coffee milk, kiwi, ham(???)…and fish? That last one has me saying NO. :face_with_hand_over_mouth::sneezing_face:

They are great! I use two together as salad servers.

Helpful!

All those things were at my store, but I don’t think it’s “everything” yet as things tend to roll in over time.

I got some spatulas for non-stick pan use, and I’d caution folks to run a finger over the edge and corners as some are very sharp, others smoothed out.

Tempted by those olive bowls every year! The small olive boards are lovely too.

The symbol at 5pm looks like an open toilet to me. That can’t be :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

True, it might not be everything, but I saw loads of the boxes and tins of holiday cookies and candies yesterday. They’d already taken over most of the space above the freezer bins. (They do have traditional chocolate advent calendars…)

YEA - Pimento cheese spread (hard to stop)

UNDECIDED - Bacon chicken cheddar dip (or something like that) — I wondered if it would be better hot, but then it wasn’t, good flavors, chicken was a bit inconsistent in quantity and size. I can’t figure out if I’ll buy it again or not.

There were also the regular full-size panettone (though I didn’t see minis) and some fancy wrapped ones in square boxes.

Annual PSA:

We are getting to the time of year when TJs idea of “seasonal” misaligns with everyone else’s understanding of holiday season — specifically with respect to pie crust and puff pastry.

If you want it, probably time to get it, because they have run out before Thanksgiving in past years and then it won’t come back till the spring.

I like their pimento cheese but I make a mean one with candied jalapeno peppers

I just grabbed some of this. (The almond paste). I love Odense, of course. I use it especially for the Claire Saffitz “Crunchy Almond Cake”. Does it compare well?

I haven’t used it — I bought it for a friend, but it looks like the Odense tubes.

They haven’t had it back at my store since the first time. I’ll look again.
