Got red kuri kabocha squash at TJs on Masonic in San Francisco last week. Grilled on bbq, served with yogurt, preserved lemon and chili oil. Went back for more today. Sadly sold out at Santa Cruz, Capitola and Monterey TJs. Til next year…
BOO to discontinued hazelnuts!
Apparently right after I bought my last bag just a couple of weeks ago.
Just…hazelnuts? How can they discontinue a basic nut selection, if so. They were definitely one of the better sources, price-wise for hazelnuts. Luckily, I have a good stash in my freezer.
They were a relatively recent addition to their selection. Costco still has them, thankfully.
They were having a problem getting walnuts (of all things) a couple months ago, but they’re back, so it’s possible the hazelnuts will come back too.
I go through a lot of walnuts for everyday munching, and i buy them variously at Costco, TJ’s, my local market bulk bin, and the farmers market. But I definitely remember putting them on the list and finding the shelves bare at TJ’s a while ago.
There’s definitely supply chain stuff going on – last week I went to get flour to bake the lemon muffins in my own kitchen before I left, but they were out and it wasn’t getting restocked for a week, I was told.
The hazelnuts the guy stocking the nut shelves was pretty categorical about. Let’s see, maybe they’ll switch suppliers and bring them back sometime. The ones they had were half-peeled despite the peeled labeling, whereas the Coscto ones don’t have that issue.
MEH on the poms. They’re about half the size of the ones I get at Wegmans.
That suggests the supplier issue could be less supply than price TJ’s was willing to pay, but who knows. (Without getting too into it, depending on how quickly and deeply things change next year, we could be in for a lot more in the way of supply chain issues.)
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that “dumpling skirts” were a thing. We love the pork and kimchi dumplings from our local dumpling place, and now I know their lacy, crunchy edges don’t just happen by chance. Yum.
NAY to the tomato and burrata ravioli. Just no. The filling is too concentrated with tomato and there is no noticeable cheese component. I gave up after a few bites and threw the rest away.
MEH to the black truffle alfredo sauce. Not awful but not great. I won’t buy it again.
A repeat YEA for the Handmade flour tortillas. They are seemingly indestructible in the fridge or freezer. I finished a packet that had been in the fridge maybe two months, and then a couple that had been in the freezer a few months that refreshed just fine when heated.
YAY for freeze dried mangosteen, $2.99/1.5 oz.
A light & crunchy version of one of the harder to find tropical fruits.
The Rabitos Royale are in. Get’em before they’re gone.
Thanks. Love them & will check my local store tomorrow…
They are usually gone within a week. So good as gifts and they last a LONG TIME. One year I missed out!
Trader Joe’s JUST opened in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho! 225 miles away and closer than Spokane. Just two nasty mountain passes to drive through . I’ll be paying btter attention to the TJ thread now.
Meh to the truffle brownies. Not dark enough, and my husband thought they were just okay.
My store was cleaned out!
