Your photo reminded me of why I wasn’t a big fan of these (also available in a little package): the salt isn’t sprinkled on, it’s all clumped together. That, plus being larger grains rather than flaky, makes for a salty mouthful.
I wonder if salt-water taffy is still a thing down in Atlantic City?
Sure is, all up and down the Jersey Shore.
I love the plain version of these corn chips, not crazy about the spicy one. Thought I’d try the new Street Corn (elote) version because I love elote. I guess I have been sheltered or haven’t had any spice blend on mine other than Tajín. These are pretty spicy. Not what I wanted for dipping into hummus.
I’m very much on the other end of the spectrum with regard to these: I can’t buy them regularly because I will eat the entire bag in one sitting. Quite possibly my favorite chips of all time. Hummus, guac, plain, whatever. Send me your bag, I’ll dispose of it for you ![]()
I agree with you, they’re over the top. Plain are better. I prefer the taste of Fritos but no longer buy them, GMO.
I thought the elote ones were new.
Update: I put the remaining bar in the freezer. It doesn’t get rock hard and the ‘oiliness’ I felt before isn’t there at the low temp. Problem solved.
Definitely not new around me (Boston) – we’ve been getting them for at least 5 years now – but I think TJ’s doesn’t distribute everything to every store. I walked into a store in NYC a while back just to poke around and they had a bunch of stuff in the frozen section in particular that I’d never seen.
I must be losing it. I do remember a spicier version of the dippers but didn’t think it was these. ![]()
The plain IS better, but I think (other than the shape) it is a dead ringer for Fritos corn chips.
YEA! Hot Honey Popcorn - Dangerous stuff. Local kettle corn purveyor used to make Jalapeño Kettle Corn that was delicious. Apparently I was the only one that bought it and he quit making it.
Kouign Amann in stock. Definitely seasonal.
Disgusting! Tom Yum snack - Realize we all have different tastes but can’t imagine who would like these.
I think the spice on these are hit or miss. Some bags are wow! And others are just a hint of elote
That’s certainly possible. I just don’t think I’ve ever had street corn that was really spicy. I’ve had it where the cotija cheese was the dominant flavor.
MEH to NAY for the frozen Tortilla Espanola.
Got tempted by the ease, but the texture was terrible – like mashed potatoes.
I guess if they called it a mashed potato cake, I’d be less disappointed.
Yay~More sweets- I think these are still available but only for the holidays… a 4 pack of frozen kouigns amann. Just proof them and then bake.. really good and a bargain compared to something from a bakery. They’re basically a folded croissant with a buttery, sugar custard in it.
We never want/need dessert after a holiday meal but …
I’m going to make a turkey again for Christmas. Maybe I’ll get a package of these and bake them when turkey comes out to rest. We’d have a nice little sweet bite at the end.
Huh…I thought dessert was the whole point!
Ooh, this is dangerous information for me.
We love the sound of dessert after the gathering, but most of us are pretty much ready to roll onto a couch by the time we get there. We always wait a little while to settle down, and then dessert comes out about 30mins or later. We’ve still always been “ooof…not sure I can fit dessert” after every holiday meal.
