Tried them plain and with some President spreadable garlic and herb cheese. Plain, they are very parsleyish. With the cheese, the parsley blends well into the herbs in the cheese. VERY good crisp on them.
But here’s my bugaboo about them: their packaging. They come in a plastic tray in a sealed plastic bag. And once you tear into the bag, there’s no way to keep the rest fresh if you’re not eating them all in one sitting or putting them out for a party.
I had a similar issue with the butter almond thins (I think that’s what they’re called): Plastic tray, no wayto reseal, and despite the tray, a lot of them were broken. The box doesn’t even have a tab to close. So why bother with the tray in the first place, just use less plastic.
Unfortunately, this is an issue at most food stores nowadays. Even Berkeley Bowl has shifted a lot of things that used to be available in bulk bins to plastic tubs.
We always dump the contents of the plastic tray back into the bag they came in, fold the top over, and use one of those big metal clamps to close. recycle the plastic tray though I am sure they get filtered out and sent to the land fill. Yes, the excess packaging is ridiculous and does not prevent breakage!
Unfortunately, the bag ripped too much trying to open it, so it was as useless as the plastic tray. Next time, if presented with such packaging, I’ll cut the top off.
Wegmans used to have a bulk food aisle where you could fill your own bag. They did away with them during COVID and never brought them back. I guess theft was a big issue.
I was just at SF Masonic store … would you believe: the Hot Honey Popcorn was gone, computer said discontinued! I only got to buy it once and I go there about 3 times a month.
I tried the frozen mashed potato/poblano tacos, baked in my toaster oven. They don’t excite at all. Will not repeat.
@ernie_in_berkeley today at the Oregon Street Berkeley Bowl, I saw that while there were plenty of bulk pre-packed nuts in plastic tubs and zipper bags, at least a third of the bulk section against the north (front) wall of the store was all nuts, both in the overhead gravity bins and the big bins below. (I don’t know which store it was where you didn’t see nuts in bulk; I live close to BB East, so I rarely go to BB West.)
The potato tacos definitely needed help. Halfway through the baking I added some cheese and then salsa when they were done. It was a bit tricky because they’re brittle, but well worth it.
I also bought a bag of “soft” dried apricots, they’re from Uzbekistan. I knew that my daughter loves these from a Russian store here in SF.
I texted her that I got them for her for her upcoming little road trip. She answered that the ones at the Russian store now cost $16 and are from Tajikistan
