Nuts.com has ones from Turkey for $15/lb, which is where I discovered them, before I knew TJ’s carried them.
These were only $4.79 a package. I told her to save me one to taste.
What do you use them for? Maybe good cut up into scones?
Anywhere I’d use dried apricots, including snacking. They’re plumper, softer, and juicier than your average dried apricot. Definitely no need to rehydrate. I first sought this type out for my mother, who was finding regular dried apricots difficult due to some specific issues (with her, not apricots), but they Re quite flavorful. I haven’t really thought about eating any for a while, since it’s been fresh stone fruit season.
I’ve not had these regular ones. But I liked the ones they used to carry, and those were low-sodium. A tiny bit healthier for me. I can get a similar lo-sodium on Amazon. (Plus I found pork stock cubes there as well, since Penzeys discontinued their pork base.)
Do you have a link to the pork stock cubes? I also miss the Penzey’s soup base.
No idea of the saltiness. Will find out after I get them. I’m also going to ask my local butcher if they’d sell me several pounds of pork bones (neck, back, rib) if they have them to make homemade stock.

Penzey’s still makes soup bases

I think LindaWhit and ernie_in_berkeley were lamenting the fact that they no longer make a pork version.
Yup. Ham base is made from cured, brined, and smoked meat, and is WAY too salty (for me), while pork base is made from bones and raw lean pork. Completely different flavors. Minor’s is now the only “loose” jarred pork base sold, but it’s a commercial product and is sold in 1 lb tubs. I’ll never end up using all of that before it goes bad…or I die. So I’m hoping the cubes work or my butcher sells bones to make a collagen-rich stock.
Yes, no more pork base from Penzey’s. My local yuppie butcher makes very nice pork broth, for ramen, but I liked adding a teaspoon of porkiness from the base to other dishes.
Exactly. I don’t want to buy a pork broth, as I’d have to freeze the majority of it. The base allows me to add as I need. The cubes will at least allow me to cut them in half for a smaller quantity.
I ordered the pork cubes (and chicken concentrate packets) late yesterday. Should be delivered on Tuesday.
Sorry I didn’t realize that. It’s not something I would have ever bought. I do like Penzey’s vegetable broth base, though!
Big yay for the Everything Bagel kettle chips. Addictive, even if the bits of poppy seed get stuck in your teeth.
I dig em!
This is an outrage! Wasn’t it just a ‘new’ product earlier this month? Weird that they would pull it so soon. The last time I was there, they were selling (and not just to me).
Maybe they were overwhelmed and sold out?
Do not buy TJ’s green pimento olives unless you enjoy biting into what seems to be an ellipsoid (I had to look up this word) of salty wax.
Apparently the Hot Honey Popcorn was meant to be a limited item. I didn’t realize by limited they meant only one month. I do hope they bring this back, and for sure, this is worthy of being in their regular rotation. It’s probably the best snack they have of the snacks I’ve tried.
A nay on the ghost pepper potato chips. A picked up a bag and when I opened it they were a bit soft and just not right. I should not have eaten them but I had munchies so I did
Bad idea. Very bad. Which is a bummer cause I normally love them
