Trader Joe’s Product Reviews – YEA/NAY/MEH – 2025 Edition

Tried these green onion pancakes for the first time today and I’m honestly hooked! They come out super crispy on the outside and nice and chewy inside — way better than the ones I used to struggle with making from scratch back when I had a tiny kitchen. All I did was toss them in a good nonstick pan from one of the Best Cookware Sets Available and they turned out golden and perfect in just a few minutes. It really makes a difference when nothing sticks and the heat’s nice and even. I’m definitely keeping a pack or two of these in the freezer from now on — such an easy snack or side dish when I don’t feel like making something complicated. A big YEA from me!

The Korean scallion pancakes / pajeon are good too. (No extra oil needed – they use plenty already!)

I’m with you on the Garlic Butter Chips – YEA or NAY depending on the bite :joy:

They are STRONG. Might be better with a mild yogurt or sour cream dip, but who had time for that. Better to scarf the bag and complain about too much garlic

And this from someone who loves Toum / garlic spread.

YEA for the new fried shallots that I almost didn’t see – bought 2 bags just in case they’re one and done.

NAY for the red pepper pesto which I may have nayed already. Might be saved with some doctoring, but the refrigerated muhammara was a much better version of this.

Hi! Which section are the fried shallots in? I’d love to grab some of those. Thanks!

It was by the end of the checkout line, I almost didn’t see it. Not on the new products shelf or where the fried jalapeños are. Might be easier to call and have them hold it for you.

Found them on the new products shelf at the local TJs…Should probably get a second bag “just in case….”

I saw them next to the spices on the top shelf.

YEA (I think?) for the refrigerated buttermilk ranch dressing. Ima suckah for ranch & often make my own, but ever since I found the holy grail that is Cindy’s Kitchen buttermilk ranch, it’s pretty hard to impress me.

I actually did a little taste test today with Persian cukes, between this one and the one I bought at Aldi just a couple of days ago.

TJ’s buttermilk ranch is runnier than I would’ve expected — for a commercial US dressing, which tend to be much thicker than what I grew up with, and also for a ranch dressing. It had a prominent dill flavor to it, which I also don’t really associate with ranch, but it tastes similar to some of the dressings I make.

Lastly, I was surprised to see that it had 10 more calories per serving than the Aldi dressing, which is thicker, richer, creamier and very, very salty.

I love Cindy’s Lemon Shallot dressing…and the Barcelona is pretty good too.

I tried that one and didn’t like it at all! I actually left it at our landlord’s place in Philly :grimacing:

I also didn’t care for the spicy pistachio dressing, although I did take that back home but have yet to figure out how to use it.

The blue cheese is pretty awesome, too

I was just curious (and had too much time) when I read that - both have the same amount in the bottle but different serving sizes (11 vs 12) - Both have 2 TBL as serving size but one is 30ml whereas the other 30g - the density of ranch dressing isn’t 1 so most likely the difference is that the actual serving size is slightly different.
(And the difference in creaminess is just the amount of xanthan added)

Thanks!

Thank you!

I’ll check there, too. Thanks!

YEA for the mini spinach ravioli. I like the ratio of pasta to filling given the size, and they’re easier to eat. Prefer them to the tortellini for evenness of cooking.

I will let you know when I start using it again!

Yea to the Thai shrimp gyoza (is that a misnomer?). The filling actually has some texture with greens and shrimp pieces, the wrappers are thin, and they’re juicy and not fishy. Definitely buying again. Better than their pork or veggie versions.

Nay to the pancake fries and chocolate almond butter. Oily and flavorless, respectively. Glad they were sampling.

Just opened the new Deli Sandwich Style Potato Chips. Ate 2 or 3 and closed the bag. Not a good first reaction. Not sure just what they’re trying to achieve here, but it’s not doing it for me.

Fried Shallots! Good on my cheeseburger tonight and I didn’t have to mess up my stove frying my own.
(plus I never remember to do this till I want fried shallots)
