What is your current favourite burger at a restaurant with table service?
The one at Richmond Station with cheddar, pickled onions, and beet jam is quite good. It is pricey, a bit over $30 from what I remember.
I liked the burger at The Comrade on Queen E. They have a happy hour special with a $16 burger Mom to Sat, 5 pm to 7 pm.
The regular menu’s prime rib burger, which is what I like, currently costs $23.
I want to try the burger at Union on Ossington, and at The Ace on Roncy.
I tried to order take-out from Richmond Station after opera a couple times over the past 2 years, but they can’t accommodate, which I can understand. I hope to eventually try their burger. I haven’t dined there in ages.
Wow!!!
For the price, I can get 2 ’ juicy ’ Wagyu Beef Burgers with drinks from Tokyo’s Shibuya ’ Tokyo Burger '!
A lot of burgers at Toronto restaurants with table service are running $29-$33 this summer. Understandable with the rising costs.
Union’s Burger is currently $32, and it comes with frites.
Worth noting that Richmond Station’s menu prices include a mandatory “hospitality included” charge (tipping is banned).
Thanks for mentioning that.
Easy. The Montrealer Burger at my local pub, The Fox Goes Free. It’s a knife and fork burger with flavour to spare.
That sounds delish, Googs.
With the right tweaking, I can turn their Mexican burger into a Toby’s Good Eats Courage. Also a winner.
I moved to Toronto when Toby’s was at its peak. 3 locations that were relatively close when I was living in Toronto from 1989-1999.
Yonge and Bloor, where I had my first Toby’s burger and my first Poutine in 1989. The cavernous Eaton Centre location. My friends and I, as teenagers , preferred the Lime Rickeys at street level or Mr Green Jeans back then, if we were eating inside the Eaton Centre.
Also, the Toby’s location on the south side of Bloor near Bellair.
I too remember Toby’s, which I liked (at least as a teen). I also remember Mr. Green Jeans, mainly for the mammoth size of the portions.
I loved this honey mustard chicken breast stuffed with bacon, spinach and mozzarella. That was my favourite thing to order at 16 and 17. Also the virgin strawberry daiquiris, and virgin piña coladas.
Those buffalo chips were popular, too.
Toby’s Bloor & Belair was their best and the only one I really loved eating at. The others never reached that level. They had some clever ideas. That cheese sauce not only stretched ingredients, I think it harmonized better with their compositions than simple grated cheese.
I noticed that there still is a Toby’s Good Eats in Hamilton - the logo looks the same.
The Toby’s on College Street near Bathurst seemed to use some of the old paraphernalia and signage for a while . I understand it has nothing to do with the original and the food is not like what Toby’s was serving.
They seem to have revamped a bit and are using less of the Old Toby’s schtick. I’m pretty sure the current owners of the College St Toby’s Pub are South Asian, so I’ll be sure to try the butter chicken or chicken curry if I ever stop in to try their burger. LOL
I think they sell a lot of beer.
I don’t know anything about the Hamilton Toby’s.
It does look the same, @DrJohn
