An excellent run, especially considering how German food hasn’t been a popular restaurant food in Ontario since the 1980s. There used to be a lot more good German restaurants and bakeries around, and a lot more places serving a good Black Forest Cake.
Was it the same family for 55 years?
No idea.
I ate there once when I was in town forvthe Junos. It was nice.
I have further information that “Purple Orchid Seafood Cuisine” is owned by the same owner as Yumi Legend Chinese restaurant on Hwy 7 and Chalmers. Good point about DineSafe. I’m not sure they can get DineSafe certification this quickly but they are now open for business.
Sucks. This was a great place for us to pick up interesting wines.

London, Ontario has been gaining a ton of new Hakka joints, Momo joints and Turkish joints over the past 6 months. There are also some new Brazilian, Korean, Indian and Mexican spots.
There are more places to find birria tacos than lasagna right now.
Very few options for Greek, Cantonese and Italian food now.
The souvlaki joints have been replaced by shawarma joints.
It’s amazing how quickly a restaurant landscape can change.
London had no Turkish options before the past 18 months, and now there are at least 6.
Turkish has become popular all over Toronto … near home there will be two across the street from each other in Richmond Hill (Yonge north of Weldrick) as soon as Mangal opens. I still have yet to try Turkish but am intrigued. I think there are more Turkish restaurants here but I defer to the expert Charles.
I’ve noticed a lot are located near Woodbridge, too.
We have a great Greek, Balkan and/or Turkish restaurants, bars, coffee shops, groceries and bakeries in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area [Danforth] [Scarborough] [Ossington] thread running.
