I liked the way the super fans clapped back Tom about the broken whipped cream. I think he tried to shame them!

Awww, thanks! I haven’t watched in a long time. I think I stopped watching almost all TV during COVID, (which is the exact opposite of what everyone else in the world was doing!). But I’ll agree - that recap was pretty choppy.
What happened to Sieger Bayer?
On another site, there’s speculation about that. (Putting this in spoiler mode, but it’s not a spoiler if you’re caught up.) The thought is that he didn’t show up in LCK, which is filmed all in a block before they bring someone back, because once the producers 86’d Jen and Justin declined to continue when offered the chance, they’ll offer the place to Siéger (the last one eliminated before Justin) so they’ll have an even number for Restaurant Wars.
Thanks! Where’d you see that? I’m signed up for a weekly review but the part about Sieger Bayer was behind a paywall.
I was thinking that, and then I watched LCK.
I am pretty sure I saw a commercial reflecting this, which added to my confusion.
At the bottom of this better-but-still-not-nearly-as-good-as-she-who-shall-not-be-named recap. (Okay, @LindaWhit)

"Top Chef did a great job not showing us who was brought back for “Restaurant Wars” in the previews for next week; however, Last Chance Kitchen hinted at the outcome."
Ugh. I thought I was caught up but I wasn’t, so I just spoiled it for myself (but with the most obvious eliminations, so I’m not too upset).
Thanks for linking that review, because the author’s review on the Sieger episode closely summed up my thoughts, except for an additional “casting” bit, which is that they deliberately kept the twin because it’s “good tv” to have the twins pitted against each other till the end, even if that pimento cheese spuma garbage should have ended one, and Sieger deserved some credit for every other person’s meat on his team.
Thumbs up to Laurence for (sort of) mentioning that the floss idea wasn’t his. (Also @kobuta I had not realized until now that he is the chef/owner of Rubato!)
I thought the final food in the bbq wasn’t showcased enough – many of the plates were complex with several components, and it didn’t really come through at the end in the expedited viewing of the judging.
I didn’t realize Lawrence took the lead, but otherwise me too! And I just realized I should have blurred the words restaurant wars!
I was “very unhappy” about the huge, in show, Cracker Barrel quick fire. No idea how Kristen felt about it, but I’m pissed for her. What a poor choice by producers.
Ha! And pork floss is so Asian, so he’s going to lose some Asian points for not thinking of that. ![]()
And did you see that episode where they showed that little corner of Quincy where his mom’s bakery was (now Rubato)? Never thought I would see that on a national tv show. He’s cooked some of his winning dishes at his restaurant after each episode airs, and he’s had lines around the block for those!
I’m hoping this isn’t spoilerish by now but with Sieger’s departure, I always wince every time a cheftestant does the experience brag. "I cook XX every week, or I did this and know all about XX " - that’s the Top Chef jinx edit, and you know that person will end up middle of the pack , at best, or on the bottom or eliminated. He even almost double-jinxed himself when he gave some flack to the other team for taking part of the pig off early. His line where he mentioned he’d rather lose on his loin dish than not honor how to smoke that pig “the proper” way - inflexibility in your cooking approach and philosophy never wins either.
I was wincing when they quoted him saying that.
Very cool, because it’s Quincy and not a fancy Boston (or NYC) spot. Not that those chefs haven’t had admirable journeys, but still.
I agree on a macro level, but in Sieger’s case, as I mentioned above, I think it was a producer hack to keep the twins in the game instead of sending the person that more likely deserved to lose. Sieger’s expertise in that cook probably contributed a fair bit to saving the rest of the people on his team. He also willingly took the worst part of the pig. Maybe if the sauce had been on top, or a bunch of other stuff on the plate, they wouldn’t have had the cover to engineer it.
Ah!
I haven’t watched the newest episode and never finished the previous one so I’m not reading through all the comments, but I did see on social media that they dragged out some reality tv stars from another bravo show which made me shudder. The ads are bad enough I don’t want to see or know about any of those people. Anyway again really appreciate cooking shows that aren’t all about product placement and crazy ties in and stunts. And now get off my lawn ![]()
Primetimer (a TV forum).
Yeah they’re sinking pretty low for commercial tie ins. Embarrassing and annoying. The food they made for the quickfire was actually more interesting than all those desserts. Weird choice for them to make for the superfans. Someone said on Reddit the quick turnaround time with no market visit saves them money on filming. I was more concerned for the contestant who looked like she was having a stroke then being very interested in the food/desserts.
I just finished watching new season of tournament of champions which has solid chefs and blind judging and I don’t recall any hawking of brands or commercial tie ins. Top chef has really jumped the shark on that problem. Camera also loves to focus on brands that chefs are using while they cook. Is this a bravo thing? I don’t watch any of their other shows anymore.
By the way, apparently her BF confirmed she was having the onset of Bell’s Palsey, which makes sense given how she was presenting on camera.
yes, I read that if she was having nerve pain in her shoulder that can cause Bells Palsy. Had a friend with it and it lasted awhile. Hope she’s feeling better.
Kristen was visibly upset. I really like her. And I’m so glad Justin did the right thing by going home with her.
Do you warh Last Chance Kitchen?
