Tibetan food in [Greater Toronto Area]

Anything about Tibetan food in the GTA

I tried Momoheart
(416) 551-7891

on Lansdowne Ave North of Bloor today. The pan-fried beef momo were delicious. Just under $11 for 10 Momos. The Momos were a generous size. This restaurant is set up like a fast food restaurant, rather than a full service restaurant. The menu is limited.

A previous Momo Crawl in Parkdale, to Loga’s Corner and
Tashi Delek .

Lhasa Thukpa from Tibet Café in Kensington Market. Prices are cheaper if you call direct, instead of using UberEats.

The place is a dive, and some customers seem to be there for cheap beer rather than Tibetan food. Their thukpa is good. I haven’t tried any other Lhasa Thukpas yet.

I’ve tried the Butter Chicken Momos at Momo House in Yorkville. They were fine. They do in a pinch.

Oh I tried them as well maybe I ordered the wrong type as didn’t think they were anything special. Butter chicken isn’t my go to flavor though

Agree, the Momos at Momo House aren’t anything special. I should have said they were okay rather than fine.

I prefer the other Momos I have tried elsewhere listed in the other replies.

When I say they’ll do in a pinch, I mean that they’re not that special. They’re okay.

I’ve only tried Butter Chicken momos once.

There is a Momo place called Momo Corner at 161 Baldwin in Kensington Market, that I think is Nepalese instead of Tibetan, and they had more sauce options.

Are there any Tibetan restaurants outside of Toronto?

London has a place that sells Tibetan Momos and a few other dishes at the Western Fair Farmers Market on the weekend, and sells to some indie grocery stores.

I don’t know about your neck of the woods.

Toronto has the largest expat Tibetan population outside Tibet. The heart of the community is in Parkdale.

A lot of Hakka restaurants sell Momos, since they’re very popular throughout the Himalayas, Nepal, India, and other parts of South Asia.

If you come to explore Momos, you’ll be happy to see most places have at least 2 or 3 vegan and/ or vegetarian Momos available.

Momo Hut and Gardens on the Danforth is quite good. They have a small patio during the warmer months.

Good to know about the patio!

I found Momo House to be a huge disappointment

I’ve only been to Momo House once, maybe 3 years ago.

I didn’t go back. I used to live nearby, and I stopped by in bad weather

It joins Splendido, Chiado, the Firkin, Terroni, and EatBKK, as a place where I’ve dined, and then come down with hives about 4 hours after eating. (Sensitive to sulfites and nitrates, found in preservatives and some commercial condiments)

Is there a Tibetan place you like in Parkdale? I might try another place tonight.

I haven’t been, but Loga’s Corner is supposed to be very good.

It is pretty good. (8/10 for me, for the momos)

I tried the beef momos and potato momos at Loga’s Corner when I went on a Momo Crawl with fickle from Chowhound 2 years ago.

The curried potato momos are at the top of the photo.

I like the momos at Momoheart
(416) 551-7891

at 675 Lansdowne just as much. Momoheart is a fast casual atmosphere, maybe 2 high tables for a quick meal, mostly set up for take-out and delivery. Limited menu.
