Thrifting for kitchen tools

If he’ll take $30, I’m in!

I spent last Monday hopping various thrift shops in Seattle. I finally found a Kuhn Rikon hefty stainless garlic press. Had my eye on one of those for over a year. So happy to find it second hand and in expensive.

Also found this unusual knife that looks to be homemade. Curiosity got the best of me and I bought it to ask you all what it might be for. Opening scallops?

I never find copper pots, but I actually stumbled across these two fabrication francaise copper pans but I left them in place because I own too much copper and these are middle of the road quality. I’m sure someone else is thrilled as buying them by now.

@alarash the pictures don’t seem to show. Can you try re-uploading them?

Yes, please reload?

I always stop and check if I’m near a Salvation Army or GoodWill store. Church basements and stoop sales are also good. Housing Works was pretty good years ago but now has mostly rubbish, all overpriced, too. Also not happy with HW having got into the methadone biz.

Yes, see copper occasionally. As you say. much bttered. Also desperately in need of retinning, which is v. expensive. Last I looked it was $1 and inch measured up one side, across the diameter and up the other side. Then–shipping both was. Yeesh!

I was watching “Catherine” of “Catherine’s Plates” on youtube and she was using this chopper type tool to process and brown hamburger. Personally, I had never seen one before. I happened to find this one at my local Dollar Tree ($1.25). OMG!! This thing is GREAT!! It basically has one job (to separate and brown hamburger) and it does it very well.

Is it plastic or nylon?

Feels like plastic, but it might be of mix of plastic and nylon. I didn’t read the tag. I just figured it wouldn’t scratch any of pan/skillets.

At Goodwill I found this “Quiche for 2” pan. I figured it would be a good way to use up small amounts of leftover ingredients (into a quiche). Just big enough for Sunshine & I. Moreover, it was pretty!!

This is on the back, I have no idea if it means anything. I just saw “Bake & Serve” and knew it would be utilized.

I cruise the kitchenware isle occasionally at DT.
I’ll have to take a look next time :cowboy_hat_face:

This meat chopper will change your life!! It’s like one of those… “How did I live this long without this thing”.

OK… I’m exaggerating a bit, but it really is a quite useful tool.

I love mine. Gave a couple as stocking stuffers.

The takehome here is that the REST of your copper is so superior that you passed these by. Lucky man!

Maybe the forked tip signals that it’s intended for serving cold cuts and sliced cheese? I was hoping it was for something more exciting.

I see the pampered chef version of this item somewhat frequently at thrift stores. I’ve been tempted many times but don’t eat ground beef often enough to warrant this unitasker. A silicone spatula is almost as good.
