The Short Life Span of Appliances Nowadays

I’ll quote myself from a recent thread. In the short time since this post, I had to dump $450 into a 5 year old Frigidaire washing machine…

We have a 5 year old KitchenAid refrigerator that has had too many issues to count. Fortunately our appliance repair guy is reasonable and honest. Last time here I asked him what appliance he would buy price no object. Not that I want to break the bank, but just want something that would last. He sort of shrugged and shook his head. He told me he had just come from a client where he was fixing their relatively new Thermador built in. He said he fixes as many high end appliances as mid-low end of similar ages. Basically you can’t win and it only gets worse as more tech is integrated into the appliances.

(Meanwhile the fridge in my garage, I was given from my parents 20+ years ago as a back up fridge in my old home…and the fridge was probably 15 years old when my parents gave it to me, never a problem)

Haha, yup, same exact thing with our garage fridge. It’s cliche, but they don;t make em like they used to. If you have an older solidly built appliance, keep fixing it!
