The Mediterranean Diet is a Whitewashed Fantasy

Yes it is, but I was looking at the intent of the diet, good intentions and all that.

I have been reading all these posts . Not sure what to think . My father lived to be 92 . He loved his salted meats and sweets . Hiked every day . Never went out to eat . I mean never. Always had a garden and loved his root vegetables .

I think I’m gonna avoid the green meat. Especially if it’s fuzzy green meat.

Side vent windows disappeared in the 70’s as A/C became standard in even base model cars.

My partner has a ‘98 Saturn SL1 with manual windows. Still drives it regularly. She changes her own oil in it, too. It’s a manual transmission. I can’t drive it.

Also had a real pop out cigarette lighter.

My 2004 Toyota Matirx did not.

I did a pilgrimage to Lisbon last year in search of the original version of bacalao that had been served to me previously by a Brazilian friend.
I ordered bacalao 3 times, each time getting a dish that was nothing like what i expected.
I later found out that there are at least 300 kinds of bacalao.
Shrinkrap, yours sounds good AND healthier than most!

I had a bunch of cars w/o AC. My first AC car was a retrofitted Volvo. They removed the glove compartment to add the unit. The car had a choke, too! Also had a lot of manual transmissions. Seriously, it’s easy to learn to drive them. I taught several folks. :eyes:We’ve had a huge uptick in car thefts/carjackings in the area. Rumor has it that no one will steal a manual transmission because no one knows how to drive one. I have a different safeguard. My building’s locked garage. These days, I just think about what mug will fit in my cup holders.

My 2008 Mazda 3 does have a cigarette lighter. I use it as a power port for my tire air pump!

My first was a `78 Honda Civic, no A/C, no FM radio, stick. Bought it for $900 with 70K miles and sold it for $1200 with 130K miles. I called it my Fred FlintstoneMobile because when my battery was weak/dead, I could get it started rolling by skateboarding my left foot out the door, right foot on the clutch, then popping it in 2nd gear and starting it barely moving 3 mph. But mostly I’d try to park on a bit of an incline.

My third was an `89 Olds Cutlass Calais, also without A/C, bought new. It was a bit of an oddball, though, because I wanted a 4-door sedan with a stick - it took the dealer a while to find one, and I paid the dealer to add an A/C unit. All the Calais models I looked at with automatic transmissions did have A/C.

Well sure, but what about the lighter and ashtray setup?
I’m guessing the Olds was all set up for smoking.

Car cigarette lighters work fairly well lighting firecrackers, too.
It shouldn’t need to have been said, but make sure your friends have an open window before they push in the lighter.

I really can’t recall, but given the time frame, it likely did (never been a smoker so in all my cars, any ashtrays have been the dedicated coin receptacle).

The electric windows in my parents’ car couldn’t be opened many decades ago because the cigarette lighter shorted out the electrical system.

So it was basically a mandatory hotbox.

19 year old me might have counted that as a feature rather than a bug.

The age old technique of sticking a bud directly on the hot lighter, proving the lighter is much more important than working windows.

The cigarette lighters in this car were never used. Neither of my parents ever smoked and they gave the car (about a 1975 or thereabouts Oldsmobile 98, aka as “landshark”) to me, and neither I nor anyone else who was ever in the car ever used the lighters. In 1984 I was trying to drive the car back from Palo Alto, Calif., with my brother, to my parents’ home in North Carolina. The windows needed to opened driving cross country in the summer (there was a/c but we wanted to open the windows.) I took it an Oldsmobile dealership in Palo Alto our of desperation and they fixed it so the windows would open.
