Though it’s MUCH, MUCH better than it used to be, there are still too many smokers and places that allow smoking here in Japan.
The bathrooms in my old building (a federal government one, at that) where I used to work came with an ashtray in each of the toilet stalls.
Virgin Air 2016, someone kept setting off the smoke alarm in the loo.
BITD the seats had little metal ashtrays in the seat arms, did they still have those in 1997?
How stupid does one have to be? I could see someone (not me, not ever, of course) get away with vaping, but… yeah. Wow.
Pretty sure they did.
I think security was waiting for them when we landed at LAX, that was the threat anyway.
So. Worth. It.
I guess?
Yep. I’m trying to remember when they disappeared. Also side vent front windows, and cranking windows … I’m old. …
Risk//Reward unfortunately doesn’t figure into some folks’ considerations.
We went to a nearby town to visit my grandmother after she got out of the hospital for treatment for lung cancer. We stopped by the grocery store near her house first and encountered her there, in the grocery store, smoking. Her husband my grandfather died when I was 5 from emphysema. I grew up in NC and everyone smoked everywhere. I am so fortunate that neither of my parents smoked. My dad would not allow anyone to smoke in his office at work even in the 1970s. People hated that. I had childhood asthma, missed almost half of first grade because I was sick so often. I am convinced it was caused or at least made worse because I and everyone else was constantly surrounded by cigarette smoke, except not in my own house!
Cars had ashtrays and cigarette lighters.
Perhaps the smoking discussion needs to be moved to its own thread? It seems ironic that a discussion on what is touted to be a good diet morphed into one on an activity that is proven to be deadly.
Not so sure about that.
I get deathly ill if I don’t have my weekly cigar.
Yes, but you’re still alive! Per the old saw, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
There was a guy in my group at work, in the early 80’s, who used to every Friday afternoon subject us to the “aroma” (I’m being charitable) of a cigar. I had an escape……the bowels of the building where my lab was, and smoking was verboten.
Thread drift. It happens.
The only thing unusual about this one is that it went over 100 comments before doing so.
Yes I owned a lot of those.
Better late than never?
Sorry. I guess the connection for me was that what’s healthy certainly has evolved. At some point being thin was enough, but that’s “de-bunked.”
Actually, isn’t this the "de-bunked ‘Mediterranean Diet’ " thread?
I would love to get back to what is healthy for me. I’m still working on salads; for this week a salad every day.
Today I am working on something like this one.
Leafy greens and lean protein.
I have a 2013 model, with ashtrays and cigarette lighters . . . front and back . . .
German model, zero coffee cup holders . . .
