The Good News Thread In The Age of Corona

Personally, I hate eggs and don’t eat them. Even ketchup won’t help. But, my dad loved ketchup on his eggs. He gets an egg sandwich on a kaiser roll - or what passes for one these days - and puts ketchup on it.

Yes, it’s quite good on hash browns. I sneak those off the plate of people eating scrambled eggs at my table!

And I always need more than one ramekin full!

I prefer HP sauce on my eggs, particularly scrambled eggs. Although I have ketchup on a bacon sandwich if it is a bacon and egg sandwich then the egg trumps the bacon and I have HP sauce.

My wife grew up with smooth applesauce scrambled in the eggs.

My taste buds scream NOOOOOOOOOOO.

MINE too.

And…she still doesn’t enjoy cooked eggs as much as I do.

Alphabetized?

…now that’s just weird!
Hopefully she doesn’t top it with ketchup.

Ha! Spaghetti with ketchup was not entirely foreign to her tribe. But those days are long gone. My mil was not a kitchen person. She made reservations.

OK, just a little background as a prelude to this story. As any parent of an adult child/children knows, when they come over for dinner, you send them home with leftovers, and pantry items usually. My oldest typically always asks for a roll of paper towels, which of course we give her. Now it’s become a big joke every time she comes over.

Yesterday she drove down from Seattle to drop the 2 dogs off to cheer us up. (The pup was an absolute devil). In a weird reversal, she brought us a 4 pack of tp, some homemade soup, and incredible brownies. I take this as further proof that we’re not only in a pandemic, but also in the middle of a magnetic polar reversal. I wouldn’t be surprised if the super volcano that is Yellowstone Park erupts, and a huge asteroid strikes our planet (we are in a cosmic shooting gallery ya know)! As well, it wouldn’t shock me if the huge Cascadia subduction zone clashes with the North American plate. It does tend to feel like the apocalypse these days…but life goes on, and surprising, good things are happening all around too. :upside_down_face:

This might seem weird, but I’m going to put it in this thread anyway. My uncle died two days ago from ongoing, age related, severe health problems. It wasn’t unexpected at all, but he was the very last sibling on my mom’s side. His wishes were to be cremated; the good news is that there will be no service, which is the right thing to do, given the current situation. While it makes me sad he’s not being honored with the send off he deserves, I’m relieved that the relatives won’t be gathering. My 94 year old dad seems to think he’s bullet proof, and would go hell or high water to attend his service. I don’t care if he is a triple war veteran, he’s a very old mortal man! As anyone lucky enough to have an extremely aged parent probably knows, they can be stubborn as the dickens! My kids think he verbally capitulates to me, so I’ll get off his back :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: They also have the nerve to tell me, I’m just as stubborn. Ha, no way :scream_cat:

Sorry to hear your news, Lambchop.

But, in a way, it’s sort of reassuring to hear a story that life - and death - is continuing outside of the current crisis.

Thanks @Harters, that’s exactly the way I feel about it - the natural cycle continues.

Had a rare outing late afternoon; drove to Seattle to return the beasties, and was really uplifted to see many people out walking, cycling, playing frisbee, and all that. It was very weird to see all the businesses shuttered, and the streets virtually empty of cars however.

Stopped for take out at our favorite Thai place, and everything was so delicious. A great day in this otherwise bleak time. It helps to focus on the good! Be well, and I hope your respiratory issues have improved.

Respiratory issues somewhat improved but not returned to normal - so am being very careful about self-isolation & social distancing. Frankly, I’m scared of catching the virus while my breathing is in a weakened state. Thanks for the good wishes. Stay safe, yourself.

You mention an outing. Obviously not as eventful as this idiot couple visiting my metro area.

Too funny, you just can’t make up stuff like that. Truth is stranger than fiction.

We can still drive around, but police are cracking down on parties and gatherings. Had 2 first hand reports about the extreme measures the states of Alaska and Hawai’i are taking during this crisis. Will find another thread in which to put it, to keep it more OT.

Yeah, like you, I’m pretty spooked about this virus. I fear I wouldn’t do well if I caught it, body is still recovering from the lengthy health ordeal.
It can be difficult to cope with the anxiety at times. Have to limit the news I watch.

Sorry about all this, Lambchop. My dad is 99 and is ill right now with urinary tract cancer. I worry that should he pass now we will not be able to have the gathering we would like. I will need the support from family. Right now, he is so not worried about Corona!

Sorry John!!! Please stay safe!!!

Sorry to hear about your dad’s cancer battle @winecountrygirl! I too worry that if my dad passes, we’ll have to postpone everything, which will just make things more difficult and will draw out the grief process. Practically and bluntly speaking, if we have mass deaths, the funeral industry won’t be able to deal with the burial process either. We’ll all just have to do the best we can in our completely (for now) changed world. I keep hoping to wake up from this nightmare…hoping and praying for the best :pray:t2:

@Lambchop thanks. So true. This is affecting so much more than we think!
